960P, wider lens,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Foscam FI9831W (Black) 1.3 Megapixel (1280x960p) H.264 Wireless/Wired Pan/Tilt IP Camera with IR-Cut Filter - 26ft Night Vision and 2.8mm Lens (70° Viewing Angle) - Black (Electronics)
I've owned several earlier Foscam cameras (8910w, 9821, 9821v2), the new 9831 has better video and doesn't seem to be plagued with the bugs of its predecessors. The wider viewable area is much appreciated. These cams are still far too complicated to set up on your wireless network though (port forwarding etc.). A smaller body would be appreciated too, the footprint seems larger than it needs to be.

Completely agree with your opening remarks. Fortunately, I had no issues getting this set up and visible on the web. Great cam.

How's image quality compared to the 9821w v2? Also how much wider is the viewing angle between the two?

The foscam website states 80 degrees viewing angle. It does not state whether that is left-to-right or diagonal. dropcam, by comparison, states their viewing angles are specified as diagonal.
For a 4:3 format display the diagonal is 25% larger than the horizontal field-of-view.
For a 16:9 display, its 15% larger.
