4.0 out of 5 stars Cricut Tags Bags Boxes and more 2, April 18, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cricut Cartridge - Tags Bags Boxes and More 2 (Misc.)
Just got this cart and I love all the boxes and bags There are also buttons for cards, tags, phrases, and phrase shadows. What everyone should know about this cartridge is that to get the full use of it you need to purchase both a cricut scoring tool and a set of gel pens for the cricut machine. While the scoring tool is relatively inexpensive, the gel pens are not. I am not sure I would have bought this cart if I had known that I would have to make additional purchases to make it work. Instead of making small cuts in the paper to show you where to fold it actually scores all the lines, which is great, BUT... again, I had to buy an extra tool to make it WORK!

Why do you need the gel pens? I am new to this machine and have never used it yet, but just ordered this cartridge. Please let me know if I should buy some pens too...thanks

JEMworks says:
This cartridge is designed so that some of the designs, such as the card sentiments are meant to be drawn, rather than cut out. They are single line drawings. The gel pens allow you to draw the "card phrases" (one of the option buttons for this cartridge) with out cutting the paper. The blade is taken out and replaced by the gel pen. It allows you to "draw" anything that the machine would normally cut out. The pens can be used with any cartridge, any design. To get full use of this cartridge you DO need the gel pens. I hope this helps you make your decision.

You do not have to have the scoring tool. You can use a boning tool and a scoring board after you cut to make the scoring lines for the "box".

Yes, of course you can do that. But it does not make little marks to show you where to fold like the other cartridges, and as I stated to get FULL use of the cartridge the scoring tool is needed. But as you say you can get by without it.
