This review is from: The Liberator: One World War II Soldier's 500-Day Odyssey from the Beaches of Sicily to the Gates of Dachau (Hardcover)
I was deeply touched by this book! The details, by Alex Kershaw, are amazing. The bravery of the men in the Thunderbirds is beyond the pale. The amount of combat, these men endured during thei campaigns, in Europe during WWII, was phenomenal & yet they fought on.
My father was a member of the 45th infantry. I knew he saw a lot of combat, during WWII & he would reluctantly talke about his experience at Dachau, but I never knew how really bad it was. He was a very humble man. He was the father of 8 children, who died 40 yrs ago. He is our hero. I wept during parts of this book, thinking about what he had gone through. He was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, 2 Silver Stars & a Bronze Star. This book is incredible.
