Good, but not what you expect,
This review is from: Something For The Pain (Audio CD)
Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect with this disc. Like most people, I had heard Old Man and thought it was a really good homage to Neil Young and his song, and that is also reminded me a lot of Ends from Everlast. I had read other reviews that said the rest of the disc was nothing like Old Man, which is true. If you are looking for an entire CD of that, you won't find it here.
As good as Old Man is, the rest of this album doesn't have the hip-hop flavor that one song does. On most of the other songs, Mark Kasprzyk sings the whole song (or most of it anyway) instead of raps and most of them are more rock oriented than Old Man. He has a good voice for it (truth to tell, his voice reminds me of a slightly gruffer version of Kevin Rudolf, which I don't think of as a bad thing).
I've listened to this disc several times now and, all in all, I think that this is a good disc and shows an awful lot of potential for a new artist. I like to read reviews that make comparisons to other artists so that I get an idea of what to expect, so you get one too. If you know who these people are, try to imagine a cross of Kevin Rudolf's first CD In The City with a touch of Everlast and a maybe a hint of Tom Cochrane in his voice (think of the voice on the songs Life is a Highway or Lunatic Fringe). It's a good combination. Maybe better than I make it sound here, but it works really well. I look forward to seeing what he does next.
