Exceptional cookbook for new and seasoned cooks!!,
This review is from: Vegan Eats World: 300 International Recipes for Savoring the Planet (Hardcover)
If you have Veganomicon, co-written with the fabulous Isa Chandra Moskowitz, or Viva Vegan, you already know the obvious effort and thought put into Terry's recipes. Last Christmas I cooked a whole meal for my carnivore family from Viva Vegan and they were all blown away (but I digress). In Vegan Eats World, Terry begins with an excellent chapter called "Kitchen Cartography" that defines common cooking terms and techniques as well as provides helpful tips and tricks. I generally cook with little to no oil, so I was extra impressed that she mentions this way of cooking along with suggestions on replacing oil for maximum flavor. This chapter also includes where to find uncommon ingredients and the uses for and importance of different kitchen equipment. All in all, a very useful chapter for new and practiced home cooks.
The rest of her cookbook is divided by type of dish (proteins, sauces, soups, curries & stews, etc) which I prefer to cookbooks with cute themes that divide recipes by season or region. Many of the recipes are complicated, but if you read them through first as she suggests and follow directions closely your dishes will come out perfectly. Recipes that take under 45 minutes are marked, as are more straightforward recipes for newbies.
I have at least 40 vegan cookbooks so I am buying them less frequently, but I will ALWAYS buy Terry's cookbooks. Vegan Eats World is a very special cookbook that will help you impress dinner guests and improve your cooking skills. Get it!
