I served with the author. I was a private, he was something like my lord lieutenant. He didn't think highly of my worth, I think. I, on the other hand, had him as one of my early heroes. This was a man, who, if he said that the sun would tomorrow rise in the west would have you looking westward on the morn. And then, behold, light would appear from there.
He was (and perhaps still is) as good a commander of soldiers as the gods of war have ever given. What a man. What, better yet, what a soldier!!!
