Much Better Than I Expected,
This review is from: Borderlands 2 - PC (Video Game)
I wasn't too hot on the first Borderlands. I didn't even finish it. It started strong but the world was so sparse and empty, the whole thing just felt like an empty amusement park. So, I wasn't expecting much when my son suggested playing Borderlands 2 on our PC's cooperatively.
I am having a much better time this time around. The loot is fun, the game is highly irreverent, sarcastic, and tongue in cheek gory and violent. The cut scenes introducing each new boss are simply hilarious and remind you that this whole game is just a big goof. It's like playing an action comedy. Lots of shooting and killing but no one is really taking it too seriously. This game is the perfect anti-dote to the latest Call of Battlefield military shooter. I like and play BF3 and MW, but that market is so saturated and seems stuck on a permanent rinse, wash, and repeat cycle. This game is a tasty change of pace.
Plot? Not that it matters really, but a big bad guy is taking over Pandora. You (and your coop partner if you choose) resist and fight him and his goons. Lots of guns, all with little variations. Check out the gameplay videos on youtube to get a taste. This time around, the cell shaded graphics really pop. The planet is really colorful and somehow the weird comic book motif just works. The voiceovers are awesome and hilarious. If you want a change from the latest military shooters, check this game out; just expect a lighthearted jaunt through bullet ridden Pandora (the planet you are on) rather than a serious minded save the world style of game. Depth? No. Fun? Absolutely.
