*Update* I love this headset again,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Wireless Stereo Headset - Playstation 3 (Video Game)
*Update* Sony patched the PS3 for this headset about 6 months after review and it's great again since.
***Original review below***
I've been using this headset since day 1. I preordered them to use with my drum set and Rock Band 3, and was extremely happy. Finally I could play and hear nothing but the music, without the noise of the sticks hitting the drums. That was until Sony released update 4.10 for the PS3 back in early February. This update attempted to address complaints that people could not hear themselves talk because the headphones completely covered the ears. It's true that you could hardly hear anything because of this, but this was a plus for me. Why would I want to hear ambient noise when I'm trying to immerse myself in a game or movie?
The result of the update is that the mic is now active 100% of the time, it's way too loud, and it cannot be turned off. You can still mute the mic so that your voice doesn't transmit into the game online, but you now always hear your voice, as well as any and all ambient noise in the room. In addition, there is a persistent hiss in the headphones. All of this means that I now need to turn the volume up to a very uncomfortable level, and the sound quality is atrocious.
Bottom line is until Sony repeals this "fix" or gives it a means to be disabled, they are now useless to me.
P.S. I tried amending my original review with a link to a discussion on the Playstation support forums which outlines these problems, but my review was subsequently removed.
