2.0 out of 5 stars Not there - different fit than the 4/4S HD model, September 28, 2012
This review is from: Speck Products PixelSkin HD Rubberized Case for iPhone 5/5s - Harbor Blue (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I have had 2 Pixel HD cases for my prior iPhone 4 and loved them for the fit and raised edge that allowed me to place my phone face down on a table. Just got my Pixel HD for my new iPhone 5 and it just does not fit the same:

1. The depth is about a business card thickness too much inside causing the corners to wiggle a little.
2. The lip edge is much smaller with a lower profile and barely prevents the face glass from making contact with a flat surface when placing the phone face down.

This would have been a great IF Speck had used about an extra 1 mm of TPU all around and 1-2 mm more of a raised lip edge. It seems very rushed to market.

Unfortunately, this case is being returned and I cannot recommend this new model for the iPhone 5.

I heard that Speck is shipping out new Pixelskin's that have a tighter cut. Have you heard anything about this?

I bought mine a few days ago. It is pretty tight. Also, the raised lip on the front of the phone is about 1.5-2mm.... which seems to be plenty for placing the phone face down on a surface.

I had the Pixelskin HD for the iphone 4, and this one seems to be of equal quality.

It is not of the same quality. The plastic and molding used in the PixelSkin HD for the iPhone 4/4S was much better.

Thank you for mentioning this, I could definitely use the wiggle room, as it would be considered a feature for me--it allows a credit card or security card with an RFID tag. One less thing to carry in my wallet.

Ordered one from Speck for my Dad and then ordered some from Amazon. What I found is that unless you order FROM Amazon as in bought from and shipped by Amazon you run the risk of getting a counterfeit. It was very hard to tell. The package looked the same, the case looked genuine but the molding wasnt as good and the material was more rigid and less smooth. The edged had a sheen to them whereas the real one is totally matte. Lastly the fit is not the same. It is not Speck putting out a bad product, it is Chinese counterfeiters. After close inspection teh printing on the package is slightly different. The fonts aren't exactly the same and some graphics are slightly different. I contacted Speck and they say they have a real problem with these fakes. Re-ordered from Amazon and shipped by Amazon and got a genuine one. If you aren't happy with your RETURN it and re-order from Amazon as the seller. This is the best qualty case I have found for iPhone 5, the genuine one that is.

Michael Gin says:
So, just to be sure: you recommend choosing the option that says: buy from Amazon.com LLC? Because the default option on Amazon is Crawford Superstore. The Amazon.com option is about 50 cents more expensive, but this is more likely the non-counterfeit option?

Yes. Order from Amazon and make sure Amazon is the shipper and you should be okay. I re-ordered from them and got one identical to the one my dad got from Speck direct. It is a night and day difference. ferfect fit, better material, better molding, correct color, etc.

No, this is not the case! I paid extra to get it from Amazon and I got a counterfeit case. Please see my pictures and review.

Hi Shane, I got a counterfeit case from Amazon. From my experience, you run the risk of counterfeits from Amazon as well.
