I feel lucky for discovering this band,
This review is from: Lateralus (Audio CD)
A year ago Tool didn't exist for me. I have never heard of this band. Then came the great song called Passenger, on the Deftones' album White Pony, featuring vocals from a guy named James Maynard Keenan. I loved his voice and i found out he's the singer of a certain band named Tool.
Here i am now, listening to Lateralus, the latest Tool album, and i can't believe my ears. It's probably the best album i've heard in a long time. Unlike you other Tool fans, i can't compare this to anything, because this is the only Tool material i know. I haven't listened to the other albums so i don't know if this is better or worse than the previous.
But i know one thing.
Lateralus amazes, from the beginning til the end. You don't even know what to appreciate more: Danny Carey's incredible drumming, Keenan's fabulous voice, the complexity of every single song, the out-of-this-world lyrics.
This is perfect. Starting with The Grudge, a very long track (just like most Tool songs), but very interesting and original. The Patient is an awesome song, with an awesome chorus, and with Keenan singing "I'm still right here - Giving blood, keeping faith, but i'm still right here". Parabol/Parabola are actually only one song, starting really slow and then growing to a very full of rythm hard rock passage. Ticks and Leeches is the hardest song of the album, and what you notice first is Danny's great drumming. Lateralis, Disposition and Reflection are also good, and then comes one of the best songs of the album, Triad, a great instrumental that i am sure you'll love.
What the hell are you still doing here?? Get your eyes off this stupid monitor, leave that poor mouse alone and go buy this album!!! You'll love it. After all, we are eternal, and all this pain is an illusion...............
