This review is from: Flipped (Hardcover)
FLIPPED is a story about two eigth graders who have known eachother for years, and yet barely know eachother at all. All Juli knows is that something about Bryce, most probably his deep blue eyes, got her hooked all those years ago when she first saw him and his dad moving boxes out of the moving van. All Bryce knows is that Juli is what he would call a royal pain, and more than a bit eccentric.
However, once eight grade starts everything begins to flip, hence the title. Van Draanens writing style is funny, and the feelings her characters have to deal with are ones that most any young adult should be able to relate too, most especially that of wanting someone who barely acknowledges your existance.
The intriguing hook of this book, however, is that each chapter alternates between the voice of Juli and the voice of Bryce, adding a lot more depth to the story as a whole. Another thing that will make readers appreciate this book is that Van Draanen allows herself to explore other aspects of the lives of her characters, and doesn't focus entirely on the feelings Juli and Bryce have for eachother.
Recommmended to readers ages 12+, boys and girls. Enjoy!
