This book gathers together a number of Kirk's (K) best essays. Kirk recognized that authentic conservatism would have to be founded on a bedrock of moral and ethical philosophy .His essays are founded on a deep understanding of what Smith and Burke realized - any conservative economic approach to public policy had to be based on virtue ethics and moral principles. Like Smith and Burke, K rejected the utilitarian-libertarian philosophies espoused by the University of Chicago's department of economics and Booth Business school. Unfortunately, K's warnings about the dangers of libertarianism to conservatism have been completely ignored. The Republican Party has now been completely taken over by libertarians masquerading as conservatives.
