1.0 out of 5 stars Beware, incomplete and heavily censored!!, July 5, 2007
This review is from: Savage Weekend - REGION 1 DVD (DVD)
Why would anyone waste time and money releasing a film on DVD in a form that is confused and incomplete due to heavy editing and censoring?? Such is the case with Savage Weekend. I first saw the film several years ago at a drive-in theater in Georgia. I vividly recall that there were several nude and racy scenes and some fairly graphic violence, as well. Well, if you buy this DVD you can safely play it for the kids because all of the "adult" content is missing!! Also, the picture quality is absolutely dreadful and grainy and looks like it was copied from a very poor quality source; such as a copy made on VHS at home from a poor cable t.v. service!! Maybe one day Anchor Bay or someone else will give this film the treatment it deserves and release it in the original, complete, unedited and uncensored version. Also with decent and clearer picture quality, too. As a fan of actress Caitlin O'Heaney (aka Kathleen Heaney), this DVD is a real letdown.

Perhaps Criterion will someday take on "Savage Weekend" starring the immortal Caitlin O'Heaney.

For your sake, I hope so! :-)

Savage Weekend also has David Gale from Re-Animator. Ironically enough, he plays the good guy in Savage Weekend. I still wouldn't mind seeing a SE of SW ;)

Thanks for your review. Actually for me knowing the sex scenes and such are cut is a huge ++ and I now intend to buy this. SO even tho you saw it as a negative it is a good thing for this family. Reviews are so helpful

Thank you. I would have bought it and been disappointed. The value of this movie is the unusual opportunity to see Caitlin O'Heaney naked. She is a fantastic actress and I do not need to see her naked to enjoy her very much, but since she did share, I want to accept the opportunity to see her naked too. This movie appears to not be something I would be interested in for any other reason but probably Caitlin O'Heaney makes it worthwhile, even if the naked part is deleted.

Fred Adelman says:
Get the Kino Lorber Blu-Ray (in conjunction with Scorpion Releasing) if you want to see the complete version. In widescreen, no less. I think it is one of the best proto-slashers of the 70's, along with THE REDEEMER, SON OF SATAN.

Good point. Should it really be rated if it's censored?

A lot of fly-by-night companies do it. Nothing surprises me anymore.

This "censored" comment is for an old bootleg release. The more recent Kino Lorber release that this entry actually refers to is not incomplete or heavily censored.

The Kino Lorber version looks fantastic, too. A terrific little slasher film before slasher films were popular. If you want the best version, you have to do your homework. Learned that from the old VHS days.
