Not her best work,
This review is from: Red (Audio CD)
I really enjoyed her previous 3 albums. This one seems bland and boring in comparison. There are some okay tracks, but none that make me reach for this cd on my daily commute. If fact, I find myself switching over to Speak Now or National Public Radio instead. The clever storytelling songs of past albums don't show up here. Rather you get a song that practically chants "stay" endlessly. Yawn. I know she can do better than this, as I have 3 albums to prove it. Hopefully her next album gets her back on track. This one? It may be selling well, but I don't think it's going to hold up to repeated listening as her past albums have done.

I'm surprised that you were a fan and didn't enjoy this album. I think you should give the album another listen and try to keep an open mind. The production on this album is different than her past albums, and she is experimenting with different styles of music than she has before. I think that may be deterring you rather than the reasons you listed. I think her storytelling and songwriting abilities are in top form and this album showcases some of her finest work to date. I have never been much of a Taylor fan at all, and this album has totally changed that!

Jackie, I admire your fortitude in writing a somewhat negative review, given the "fans" that will go crazy when someone doesn't like everything their "fave" likes. What good are Amazon reviews if they are all "five stars?"
Thanks for your honest review. This is the place for people's real opinions. Interesting point of view.
