Too many commercials!,
This review is from: National Geographic Kids (Magazine)
I'm so glad we didn't buy a subscription to National Geographic Kids magazine without checking it out at the news stand first! It truly seemed like there were more pages of ads than of actual CONTENT in this magazine.
If you're looking for a good kids' magazine about nature & wildlife, try one of the National Wildlife Federation's excellent publications. My kids enjoy Your Big Backyard (for ages 3-7) and Ranger Rick (for kids 7 & up), both of which are available through Amazon.com or [...]
Kids Discover magazine (for 6-12 year olds) is another favorite with my children (and me) and contains great science & social studies articles without the commercials of NG Kids. You can subscribe through Amazon or [...]

Thank you so much for that review. We purposely do not have a TV subscription, and selectively purchase DVDs and download you tube programs or use netflix. It is extremely difficult to find not only appropriate viewing for our children but ad free viewing. I sincerely appreciate your review and honesty and am going to check out Your Big Back Yard and Ranger Rick, and Kids Discover- items I was not aware of. Thank you greatly.

Amazon Customer says:
I am so thankful that I read this before I touched my one-click buy button! I didn't realize how much it had changed over the years. Such a shame... I'm going to check out the others you mentioned. We absolutely adore Ranger Rick, Jr. I think hes ready to move up to the big boy Ranger Rick. I logged on to see what else was out there, and I was blown away by how the NG magazine has changed. I would never have known about it if I had not read your review. Guess I'll hold on to that chunk of change and do some more research on the ones you mentioned.

Thanks for the informative review. My late subscription to the Smithsonian Mag went the same way, along with the quality of the paper. I think I'll find another avenue to support my niece.
