Nice looking, hard reading,
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Armitron Sport Men's 408177SIL Silver-Tone and Black Chronograph Digital Watch (Watch)
I haven't owned a digital watch in over 20 years, but I bought this one as an inexpensive 'weekend' watch. I like the simple lines -- it's bold and understated at the same time, if that makes sense. I think it looks better in person than in the photos, far nicer than a typical Casio or Timex.
Unfortunately what doesn't look better in person is the display. The 'reverse' LCD is readable, but there just isn't as much contrast as the photos seem to show. At certain angles it becomes easier to read but it never looks like in the photos. In dim conditions when most of my other watches are still readable, this one is almost impossible to read. Luckily the backlight works great and the numbers take on a cool blue glow against the black background. Of course you have to press the button though, so telling the time becomes a two-handed operation.
The case is thicker than I'd expected for a digital. It even seems thicker than my automatic Omegas, but it's very lightweight and the strap is comfortable so it's easy to wear. In fact, I've ended up wearing it more than any of my 'nicer' watches so for under $20 I'd say it's worth the three stars :-)
