This was the stuff I probably should have learned in Latin or World History class, but didn't quite get. What really makes this book work are the short (less than one minute) videos at the beginning of each chapter, which provide a quick overview of the facts covered in an entertaining way. Briefly covering the founding myths of Rome, the early history, the Roman Republic, and then several notable emperors and the eventual decline of the empire and its shift to the Byzantine Empire, this little book moves along at a brisk pace. A handy and entertaining introduction especially for those who can see the videos (i.e. those reading on an iOS device or a computer, but not on the Kindle itself).
