This story takes place in Italy during WWII. Giovanna's brother turned his back on the German/Italian army, and he fought for the resistance army. He has to do so without the knowledge of his parents, who support the German/Italian army. The house that Giovanna's family lives in is taken over by the Germans.
Giovanna is only a teenager. Without family responsibilities, she has the opportunity to volunteer at a school and hospital. Doing so, she meets German soldiers. Will she get too close to a certain charming soldier?
The horrible situations caused by the war pulls on Giovanna's heart strings, especially when it comes to her brother. Giovanna decides that volunteering is not enough. She starts to hide food, clothing, and medicine for the soldiers. Her heart just cannot difereniate between allies an enemies. She sees everyone as a victim of the war. Will her naive nature be the death of her?
