A compact and versatile combo tambourine. The wood hoop is just under 8 inches in diameter and there is no padding at the hand grip taper. The hoop is painted satin black. 12 pairs of jingles; half paired brass and half paired steel. The brass provides a lower pitch with more ring, the steel gives the higher pitch you would expect. Together they are an interesting blend that I find works well for many types of music. I've seen a couple of these where the wood has cracked at the pins after what I expect was rough use / abuse. Not mine. Mine has held up fine so far with no signs of cracking. So you probably don't want to use this for hard hits (stick or dual tamb work) or tossing across the stage. For single tamb hand work I expect no problems. It sounds quite similar to Meinl's 10 inch combo tambourine but I found this one a little more versatile to use from being smaller and lighter.
