Another crappy glued binding,
This review is from: Fables The Deluxe Edition Book One (Hardcover)
Just a warning that for DC/Vertigo, "Deluxe" apparently doesn't actually mean "Deluxe" enough to warrant a proper sewn binding. Instead, as per the usual practice in the comic book industry, this is just a paperback glued into a cardboard cover. The pages are glued in and the book does not open as wide as a proper hardcover, so in some cases you lose some of the art in the gutter between the pages.
While Marvel has, seemingly, come to their senses, and is producing at least some of their hardcovers with sewn bindings these days, DC can't be bothered. Even for a deluxe edition like this, which will probably be a double-dip (at least) for many potential purchasers, they can't bother to spend the extra pennies to bind it like a real book. Sorry, fans. DC apparently thinks we'll buy anything and they're probably right.

Mine is properly bound like any other standard quality hardcover.

As was mine. Please people comment on the contents, the story, the art. If you have quality issues take it up with the printer. The negative reviews that have nothing to do with the contents skews the whole rating system.

If you have a copy with a sewn binding, please post a picture on the product page. My copy, like every other copy from this series that I've seen, has a glued binding, i.e., it's a paperback book glued into a cardboard cover.

Posted a picture of mine. Solid and durable. Holding up well. I own many hundreds of books and every other hardcover of this thickness that I own is no better bound.

Thanks for confirming that it is, in fact, glued, as I posted originally. I don't know if you own any books other than graphic novels, but the industry standard is to sew the binding for hardcovers. This allows the book to open fully without breaking the binding.

I own hundreds of books that are not graphic novels. I have not found any of the ones of similar thickness to be any more durable or esy to fully open than this one, sewn or not. That includes medical textbooks that cost north of $100, a surprising percentage of which are glued. I think that for the price of these Fables books, a glued binding is fairly common even in regular hardcover books in my personal library.

That's nice. I'm glad you're satisfied with the quality of this book's binding. That doesn't change the fact that it is glued, whereas most quality (not to say 'deluxe') hardcovers are sewn.

Unfortunately, "quality" hardcovers seem to be on the decline in recent years. As I said, I have quite a few expensive hardcovers with glued bindings.
