This is a collection of short poems of heartbreak over a past lover and an eventual transcendence expressed beautifully in “Her Lover”.
The short poems were written in free verse but rhyme was sometimes used for effective emphasis. There is nothing cryptic here either which is as it should be for the topic of heartbreak. You are expected to empathize with the poet’s position, not puzzle over it. At the same time there is nothing trivial about the unexpected insights these poems provide. They describe a perspective many people have had, but few have expressed so well.
The ebook is attractively laid out with titles below the text of the poems rather than the first thing you see. The titles become summaries rather than introductions. The table of contents is placed at the end with links to the poems and serves also as an index. Both of these features allow you to get to the heart of the poems right away.
