I enjoyed this creatively retold story of Beauty and the Beast, though I couldn't quite give it five stars due to the lagging in the middle. Annabel is a bright young woman and would not be so unaware of what she is feeling. Over and over again questioning and denying and not believing there was any way possible the emotion she was experiencing might be love began to annoy me a little.
The book begins wonderfully with Annabel moving into the lord's home due to her family owing money, where we meet new and interesting characters and come face to face with the snarling lord. There's the anticipation of the feelings we wait to grow between them and 'watching' that happen. Then, unfortunately, the novel bogs down with Annabel's seeming (and annoyingly long) ignorance of what she's feeling. Happily, the ending is satisfyingly romantic and sweet!
