I had an Italian tomato timer for twenty years until I dropped it a few weeks ago and broke it. This new Tomato Timer looks like my old timer, but it isn't--it's a poorly made Chinese knock-off. The way it has the minutes printed on the bottom and the arrow on the top means you have to pick it up to see how many minutes you have left. But the real problem is that it's unreliable. Sometimes it works and has a nice ring, sometimes it just DOESN'T WORK. I turn it all the way to 60, as the instructions advise, then back to the time I want, and often it simply stops. Nearly burned a pie with this one. Even broken, my old timer is better than this one. EBay has dozens that look promising--look for the minutes on the top half, the arrow on the bottom.
