Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Length:: 2:19 Mins
The Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock is the perfect companion for my MacBook Pro - I now have to unplug just one cable when packing up my laptop. Getting back online is also fast an easy - just one cable. The dock looks and performs like an Apple product and enables you to connect 8 devices. It does, however, need to be plugged into an electrical outlet - it cannot draw it's power from your laptop. There are 9 ports: 1 ethernet, one firewire, 2 thunderbolt ports (though 1 is needed to connect to your Macbook Pro), 1 headphone, 1 mic and 3 USB ports. One of the best things the dock did for me was to natively connecting my 24-inch ViewSonic HD monitor. When I connected it directly to my MacBook, because it was really designed for PCs, it never did work correctly and sometimes would lose the connection. I'd have to unconnect it, reconnect it - and adjust various settings to get it to work again. That problem was solved with the Belkin dock - the display and Macbook Pro work perfectly together. The dock does get warm after a full day's use. But that's about the only thing I would say about it that isn't perfect. I highly recommend the Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock if you need several devices connected each time you log-on. My video goes into more detail, but I give the Belkin Thunderbolt Express Dock two thumbs up. A must-have for my home office.

Your review is inspiring, Tom. I also got this dock to review but wasn't sure how to go about doing a decent review of it. However, now that I've seen it in action as you've used it, I'm realizing I have all sorts of devices and ways I can connect to this dock. So I'm not putting off my review...

Hi Tom, great review. However, I want to make sure that I understand this device and power. Will my MacBook Pro get its power from the this docking station so that the MacBook Pro power cable does not have to be connected to a power outlet? Therefore, only the docking station needs to be plugged into a power outlet. Does this make sense?
Thanks very much!

Hi RCG and thanks for the kind words.
No, the MacBook Pro will still need its own power cord. The dock also has its own power cord. I think the dock would get too hot if it was also powering the MacBook Pro but it would be a great feature to have (one less cord to contend with). Hope that helps!
