I love this show, and find it quirky, funny, & full of verisimilitude. As an older mom, who moved to NYC in the late '70s when I was 18, I am somewhat abashed to find I recognize aspects of many of the characters and situations. The story line revolves around a group of 4 friends who are new to adulthhood in the big city. Yes, it is often raunchy & cringe-worthy, and the characters are sometimes unlikeable... but, BE HONEST, weren't there times when you were their age that you were totally self involved & found yourself in situations (sexual & otherwise) that induce a mental and spiritual shudder now (now that you are grown up, that is). Hopefully, people evolve... but the process is often messy & painful. I would like to especially note the nuanced & intriguing performance of Adam Driver as Hannah's booty call/boyfriend. Breakout performance...his character is weird, animalistic, sad, intuitive, raw, truthful, & cruel...ALL AT THE SAME TIME. I watch to see where he goes with this character as the layers peel away. Lena Dunham has created a world that intrigues, amuses, & alienates...but it does not BORE. You will love it or hate it, but you won't soon forget it.
