Written in a manner much like that of the pre-WWII spooky stories, Pale Watcher recounts the efforts of the hero to repel a demonic being attempting to gain a foothold in our world. The central image of the story, the spectral presence slowly approaching night after night is very effective old-school horror. The story as a whole could have been better, I think. This story is too straightforward and easily resolved. Not enough of is made of the problem of being trapped in a snowbound house with a partially manifested demon.
