This book was another steal as Borders was closing.
"How can you read a table book?" You say, "It's all pictures." well, yes, there are many BIG pictures, album covers and all, but it still had TEXT, you know, next to those big pictures and all. In fact, this book did a REALLY good job of briefly summarizing the album's success, what lead up to it, or what led down from it, or other recent albums that the same band had and how this particular album compared. So all in all, they really helped put the hit album in greater context of the band's life.
Furthermore there were lots of very interesting tidbits about the music industry, technology, what was going on politically at the time of an albums release. So that was really interesting. We really got a glimpse of what the world was like around an album's release. Yes, we know that metal and disco were popular in the 70's but HOW popular, and HOW are they really from what we think of today? It helps to see the big picture to understand - what came before metal and after metal, before disco and after disco. Why the grunge rebellion in early 90's and why dance/pop starts in Europe first and then comes to the states? lol Those questions are answered, and much more.
Plus, I also got lots of great suggestions of what I'll be listening to next! Can't wait!
I recommend this book to ANY music fan, especially the radio and disk jockeys out there, music bloggers, and media masses. Enjoy this book at your own cost. You might just learn something! and enjoy doing it :-)
