Stress relief of the first and highest order,
This review is from: Left 4 Dead 2 - Xbox 360 (Video Game)
After finally finding this on sale at a local supermarket, I added it to my small collection. Cheaper than therapy this carthatic sequel to the excellent lobotomizing first game proved instantly gratifying and escapist.
Granted, I play it only in single player mode, but that suits my needs just fine.
The big improvements over the first version are as follows: the wonderful addition of melee weapons (this allows one to fight a horde without having to aim or reload- except do note that the chainsaw will run out of gas), the firepower is increased (while the M-16 is unsurpassed, the AK-47 has great stopping power),and the special infected are incidious and even more dangerous (clowns, spitters, chargers and the annoying meth-head of zombie land: the idiot laughing jockey).
The design crew has created a sumptious environment that melds Tod Browning, William Faulkner,TRUE BLOOD (two of the hero characters appear influenced by BLOOD'S "Tara" and "Jason"), Ann Rice with some delicious hints of James Dickey. The sound crew provides stunning recreations of a variety of firearms. The zombies have a slightly more varied design than the first game (love the Daisie Duke wearing she-cannibals)and the dialouge is pleasently tongue in cheek (Ellis' good old boy narratives are constantly interrupted!).
The action is swift, ultra violent and not too difficult (granted,I stay on normal setting).
Few things satisify and relax after a stressful day teaching literacy to over-active "youngins" than blowing away hordes of zombies.
Fun, escapist non-think entertainment.
