This might be a decent upgrade from an inkjet (then again, what isn't?), but compared to similar (even 'lesser') laser printers, it's remarkably poor.
It goes through toner like a five year old hitting a stash of pixie sticks (not helped by the fact that the toner cartridges are unusually small -- and expensive, given their capacity).
No duplex scanning, copying, or even printing. Weighs over sixty pounds, and they couldn't even squeeze in a duplex printing option.
If you're upgrading to this from another laser printer simply to get color printing capability, you are making a mistake and selecting the wrong machine.
If you're upgrading to this from any other type of printer for a personal home office, you are selecting an unwieldy beast that does one job reasonably well (faxing: who cares) and three things half as well as a machine that does it properly.
If you're buying this for a professional office of any kind, this is half the machine you want, for twice the toner replacement hassle.
With all that said: as a paperweight, the MF8280 is Top. Notch. Even the flimsiest of receipts will stay put in gale-force winds with this monster sitting on top of them. (As a bonus, if this is all you use the machine for, the toner only runs out about once a month.)
In summation: if you want to *accumulate* paper in a useless, immobile stack and do nothing else with that paper, this is the printer for you. Otherwise, buy something else.
