This review is from: Redeployment (Hardcover)
Loved the voice of these stories. It was just perfect for the content, matched it so well. They were not overly descriptive, but if they had been something would have been lost. Not something one says in a review often. The narrators were spot on, instead, telling the reader just enough in a language that was so real you often felt the story teller was talking directly to you. Having read a lot of military lit, being the daughter of a vet, I liked the balance met in these stories too. There was enough shocking info to make the reader stop and think, yet not enough to send them into emotional turmoil like some war stories do. I think more of the point gets across that way, maybe even more is allowed to be realized. I've always felt guilt when reading war stories to have the luxury of putting the book down when it becomes too much, a luxury the vet never had when the experience was happening to them. But I never had to put this book down, yet I learned so much about when the soldiers experienced. We can never know it all, again our civilian luxury, but for those who want to know more, this is a great place to start whatever amount is fiction or fictionalized non-fiction.
