THE NATURE OF A WOMAN is a light-hearted, well-intentioned book that offers a rather simplistic formula for navigating heterosexual relationships from a man’s perspective.
It focuses on the biological effects of a woman’s menstrual cycle on her moods.
There is a lot of sound advice to be found in this short, simple book. Furthermore, Mr. Simmons writes with a charm and a genuine love of the opposite sex that is quite alluring.
This is a man who really cares and it shows.
What I like most about his writing is the emphasis on seeing things from a woman’s perspective, and more important, finding a way to harmonize situations using love and respect as a fundamental foundation.
I really liked this book and I get the feeling that his wife is blessed to have him as her husband.
This is a sweet book, and although I sometimes feel that the author casts both men and women in a rather rigid stereotype, with a little flexibility of thought, his ideas can be applied to any relationship.
At the end of the book, Mr. Simmons offers membership to a private Facebook group as well as some fun bonus content.
If you’re a guy in a relationship with a woman, you can only gain by reading this book.
Definitely not something I would randomly pick up. Skeptical? yes. Worth the read? absolutely. It's not a topic I guess I know a lot about, yes have experienced the moods and I guess just accept it. All thanks to Gary for adding science and working out a road map. It's something to definitely try as anything that can help improve relationships is worth the effort for all, it can only be a win-win situation.
Disclosure: I was offered a free copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review.
Raising any discussion on the subject of sex will usually make the participants uncomfortable. And one of the most ancient and problematic issues in human sexuality is menstruation. Throughout human history it was regarded as a mystery and attracted a multitude of superstitious practices and even had an influence on religious laws. Women and especially men were totally bewildered by the accompanying periodic mood changes that seemed to conform to a pattern. Gary Simmons and his wife Christine decided to take on the subject of menstruation and explain in simple terms to make it understandable to men and thereby help make the four menstrual periods more tolerable for their partners. The language is warm and understanding with each section terminating with special advice to the husband. I would like to suggest that these authors think of publishing spin-offs in the same respectful, clear and helpful language for children of all ages and their parents My only reservation is the use of a cartoon-like figure on the cover. I don't think it reflects the seriousness of the contents.
When it comes to marriage problems, I've found that practical advice for men can be hard to come by. The concept of understanding a woman's 4 week mood cycle is intriguing and I have to say, totally relatable. It seems this book was written for my situation! After reading it, I've found that I'm looking at my relationship from a new and more positive perspective. I think this book is a good read for any man who is in a committed relationship with a woman.
