Love my little white and blue Acers, still fit after all these years
on April 17, 2017
I own two of these, one a sapphire blue and the white one. Got the white one in 2009 from Walmart, and a sapphire blue a few years back from a seller on Amazon.
Get the biggest battery, 9 or 12 cell. It makes the machine lift up a bit, so it doesn't heat so much, and makes it much easier to type. Smallest battery lasts me usually 2-3 hours; big one, 9. With 2 the batteries are exchangeable. VERY IMPORTANT: don't put the battery in until you must. That makes the battery last longer. Run the machine on electric power as much as possible. If you leave the battery in too long it will need burping (removal for some days or weeks until it drains completely).
I have Xfinity. The wifi works, I just finally bit the bullet and learned how to use wifi. Xfinity has many wifi hotspots, and it registers on the white one, which right now is updating the Firefox browser.
You can put Linux on a stick and boot it in Linux, but I don't know if the wifi will work, tho it should, since nearly everything not PC is Linux in some form or another. I had a computer thread talking about this, but vimeo deleted all groups. So if you want to know more, contact me in brainout(dot)net frankforum, which I own.
I prefer the Acer to my other 15+ laptops, only cuz it's the smallest; crystal clear screens (both run XP Home, but again you're not stuck with that, you can install Mint/PCLinuxOS/Fedora/other Linux as if to an internal hard drive but you specify the drive location of a STICK). Works best if you stand up to type.
