I wasted money on this. First, it records only when the "pen" is in a vertical position, so far if I lay it on a desk it doesn't record. Second, it is unreliable.. The files have problems playing on Microsoft Media Player, it is a hit or miss (don't know why this is.. the format is .AVI).
Third, the PC forced me to format the drive for no obvious reason... maybe just because it is unreliable.
Fourth, the user guide is barely understandable..
Fifth, not a huge deal, but although it says it is HD, the picture quality isn't all that. I noticed the colors are washed.

I bought this item which is considerably more expensive than other similar items, hoping it would be trustworthy, but it is a failure. Look elswhere.
And by the way, I'm not an ignorant user.. I can work my way around the PC and other devices.

Excellent reliability. I've tried my share of cheap undercover equipment, most just breaks after a month, but worst of all they are just plain unreliable. Not so for this particular pen camera, I've had this PH720HD pen cam for about a month and it's very reliable. Most importantly, "it works when I need it to work". The HD picture looks great outdoors. Indoors it looks more like standard definition, but I have absolutely no complaints given the small size of the sensor and the undercover nature of the device. Most ultra compact undercover devices that shoot in color have 1.0 lux+ sensors anyway, which provide ample video but nothing stunning.

The other nice thing about this device is the fixed zoom is not too wide angle, meaning that you do not have to be ultra close to your subject to obtain good video. Standing about 10 feet away from your subject with this device will still provide you good detail, making the objects/people easy to identify. You might have some trouble if you are shooting seminars in the back of a room. I've noticed that beyond 35 feet indoors, detail becomes more grainy. Outdoors, quality is good up to approx. 50-75 feet.

This pen has 3 settings. A small selector switch lies inside the pen's base, revealed by unscrewing the bottom portion. You can switch between R (recording mode), M (megapixel photo mode), and L (listening/voice recording mode). Each mode is identified by a tiny color coded light on the rear of the pen, making it easy to identify which mode you're in without removing the pen cap. Starting and stopping is very practical and simple, click the top of the pen once to start and click again to stop. Hold down for 4 seconds to turn off. Additionally, this device DOES HAVE time/date stamp for those interested.

This is very unreliable and does not work. After four five times it worked once. You have to jump through hoops to make it play, if you were lucky enough to make it work. I'm an experienced computer guy.

Overpriced, works fairly well, with the LED on back it's not inconspicuous if someone else uses

After I purchased I found the same item at another website much cheaper around $100 cheaper.

I like this pen very much, but there is a problem, i can't screw the key chain, it looks like the tread on both parts are different.

I clarify, i don't buy the product through website, I did through (dod-tec dot us) ($ 99.99)
The website describes as "official U.S. distributors" and the product have "one year guarantee" (see the details). I do my claim in 09/01/2012 through mail ( and the website form "Contact Us". Until today have not received any response.

The product is overheating every time i use and suddenly stopped working, even as usb storage can't be use!
I think the problem is, being so compact, including battery and memory, can not dissipate heat effectively. I'll try to get one that does not include memory but rather use a microsd, they tend to last better in different environments.
Dod-tec gives no real guarantee, be careful!
