Controllers have a known defect: the right click on the trackpad breaks after some time. HTC has been shipping controllers with this defect to this day. I replaced one such controller here and I am beyond livid: IT BROKE AFTER ONE DAY OF USE. I played Thumper for maybe 2-3 hours? This thing costs $130 and didn't even last me 24 hours. Absolutely ridiculous. As far as I'm concerned, the controllers need to be recalled and a proper replacement issued. Getting a replacement because I don't really have much of an option if I want to use my $800 VR headset. :/

Major design flaw. I've been through several controllers now, and at the moment have just one that works consistently... AFTER I rebuilt it. Vive really needs to fix a number of issues involving the tracking sensors and the buttons. While they're comfortable to hold and the design concept is very user friendly, the internal flaws far outweigh the positives at this point. As I ended up returning the last controller I bought, I've noted that NO ONE has ANY controllers available now. I hope this means HTC is about to release an improved design... and hopefully will recall these faulty ones, replacing them with ones that work. They need to make sure these are rugged, for people are going to bump into walls when they have a VR visor covering their eyes.

Technical Service is awful as well. How long does it take to determine that it's faulty and replace it? Items sent in for warranty repair are held indefinitely.

There is a defect with the controllers and click the right section of the trackpad. This controller will fail after a short period of time With this issue and you have to send it in for repair. I am told 5-6 weeks for the controller to be repaired, absolutely unacceptable for a defect. To add, the customer has to pay or is responsible for shipping the manaufaturer defect related item to HTC. Horrible customer service and turn around time for defects.

Well, these controllers are worthless, and HTC sucks at helping its customers. I bought this controller April 18th 2018, and it stopped working on May 19th, the same way my last one stopped working, loses tracking intermittantly and then just stops tracking all together.
The unfortunate thing is, my return window closed on May 18th 2018... Go figure. I have given HTC many chances to make this right, but nope, they dont care. Suffice to say, I will NEVER buyh another HTC product ever again. And I knkw I am not the onl;y consumer who feels this way.

I love the Vive, but the replacement controller I bought after breaking mine (you know how TV + fist goes) only lasted about a week before it started squeaking like a haunted house whenever I pulled the trigger. It really ruins the experience. I did try to fix the one I broke because it was just going into a debug mode and all that really was needed (barring sensor issues) was to pull the button down which had slid up into the case. However, after buying Torx screws to open it, I immediately stripped the screws. They're made out of the cheapest metal I've ever seen. I might have been able to do it with my nails were they sharp enough.

In any case, I didn't expect to be able to fix it what with it being this day and age. I just wish I had had the opportunity to try. The Vive rocks, but it could work on its Quality Control.

Had to replace one of the controllers that came with my headset because it would no longer sync. Now I have an obviously new one and an obviously old controller. I've employed some protective silicone pieces for the controllers and the new one seems to be holding up better than the controllers without the protective measures at the same point it their lifetime. I really wish HTC would fix these controllers to hold out for a little bit longer, but if you buy some protection for them it will go a long way

Died after 3-5 months. Doesn't even turn on. No LEDs are active. Piece of trash.

I bought one because of the weeks it takes to send one in for service. Same touchpad defect as everyone else. The second original controller started showing the same problem but the warranty is over. Now the Amazon one is also misbehaving early signs of touchpad failure. I won't buy another.
