Wonderful story of a true American hero, who performed his duty and sacrificed himself so others can live. Loved how this tied his humble beginnings in Idaho to his success as one of the few Army Air Corp PBY pilots to serve in the Pacific theater. Very well written and thoroughly researched, plus the comparison to modern equipment and methods assisted the reader to better understand exactly what it meant to be the, "Rescue Man".

Rescue Man is both a great piece of history and a remarkable story. I found myself immersed in Bud’s life on the family farm and felt bonded to him as he transitioned to the life of a pilot. Beautiful original photographs, and quotes from original documents and letters, vividly bring the story to life. I highly recommend this book, as Rescue Man brings to light the story of heretofore unheralded heroes who saved many lives in service to our country.

The author tells the story of Bud Hayes, a farmer from Idaho, who flew a PBY on rescue missions in the Pacific during WWII. He died two months after the war ended on a routine flight.

This drug on and on, but had no content. It listed where he went and what he was supposed to do there, but no details of training or his experiences. I kept waiting for something to happen and nothing ever happened.
