I am now on my THIRD kettle in less than two years. Yes it does look very nice. and yes it does boil water (who knew!) but it also dies with the enthusiasm of a lemming going over a cliff. If you decide to buy one, make sure it comes from Amazon (their customer service is well, just amazing). And make sure you take out the extended warranty deal. Oh! And steer well clear of what passes for a customer service department at Dualit. The similarity of with British Leyland quality control also extends to their customer service policy. Which seems to be along the lines of "Don't come whining to us with your problems".
Previously loved Dualit products (I've used in them in our catering business for years). Loved the look and feel of this kettle when I came across it in a holiday cottage last summer - So, I ordered one as soon as I got home - It looks great and for a couple of months it was great. Then one of the light covers came off. Then a month or so later the other light cover came off, then a month later the rim of the chrome part of the lid started to rust, then a month later a crack appeared in the plastic then today, only 14 months after purchase - It has given up the ghost totally and the on/ off switch has broken and does n't connect inside to boil the water. No More Kettle. Dualit - What has happened to your beautiful quality products that lasted for years and years??? What happened to your quality and standards and your good name???? Looking at previous comments above Dualit - You have sold out your good name and quality products to cheap defective reproductions - WHAT A SHAME DUALIT and WHAT A LET DOWN by Dualit who were such a great company with high standards and great quality stuff. Dualit Kettle cost over sixty quid but only works for 14 months
We have the toaster and kettle. The toaster is fine but the kettle packed up and it is outside warranty so I ordered a new one. It arrived and as soon as it was unpacked it was evident it was faulty. The kettle wouldn't sit on the base properly, it wobbles which is a pretty serious product control issue for a kettle. I have really lost faith in the brand as clearly you are paying for the name and the looks but the actual quality of the kettle is woeful. Now have a Charles Bentley Cordless Cream Pyramid Kettle which was half the price of this but so far seems to be of much better quality.
We have now had this kettle for 2 years. The viewing glass has cracked on both sides even though we have been very careful with it. I notice that this is a reoccurring problem reported many times by purchasers. I expected more from Dualit. I will not buy Dualit again as I do not think that they are dealing with the faults.
Yes I love it ... I would have preferred it in a colour but couldn't validate the extra in price but as a product it is for a tactile person an adorable size weight shape and nice to operate and a dream to use.... Yes I really love this product ... I have been using it for a few days and I cannot remember a kettle I like as much I also have their 4 slot toaster the version you can use half the toaster for two slots at a time or a when there are more people in the house use both sides as its a 2 x 2 ... Dualit do make loveable products. - Ah I remember : This is satisfyingly Stainless steel rather than aluminium. I really don't trust anything that I heat being aluminium - Stainless steel is a far sounder material to make items that are heated repeatedly regularly from when we drink the water used. But hey that is just my opinion... Hope my thoughts help...
Given the price, this is a poor quality product. The base and handle are made from cheap plastic. The main body is coated in a thin chrome paint which doesn't look like it would last any length of time. The switch is also very flimsy.
If this was priced at £20 to £30, all of this might be acceptable. But Dualit seems to have followed the same path as a number of other consumer brands. They lower production costs by moving the manufacturing to China and allow the quality of the product to plummet. But they keep the prices the same (or even increase them).
I don't believe this kettle would survive more than 18 months use, and would probably start looking shabby within the first year. On top of which, it doesn't even look particularly nice when it comes out of the box. Back it went to Amazon.
This was to replace another kettle that I had had for several years. So I have had two of these kettles in about nine years. It has got to be worth it! I have a friend that buys a £20 kettle every ten months or so because they pack up, she thinks that Dualit are expensive. Maybe, but they look good too; they are quiet and boil water quickly. Easy to descale every now and then and comes up like new.
Was given this as a house-warming present along with the Dualit high-gloss toaster,(the toaster matches the Whirlpool Max25 microwave perfectly), but the kettle is noticeably paler cream than the toaster. WHY?! They're bought together, but it doesn't mention that they don't match!
The first kettle we received was very wobbly on the power base - dangerously so. There are 3 points of contact and it just seemed to wobble alarmingly, particularly when pressing the "on" switch. Amazon exchanged it immediately (very good service) and the second one was much better. (It still seems rather wobbly - which you don't expect from Dualit or at this price, but it's not so noticeable when full of water).
It's a nice quality kettle with a practical lid. The water guage does get very obscured by condensation, but not a real problem. If it wasn't for the wobbly base and mis-matching colour, I'd give it 5*s.
This kettle looks great and performed well for a start. It then developed a fault whereby it switched off before reaching boiling point. I contacted Amazon who were great and put me in touch with Dualit who requested that the kettle should be returned to them. They then returned it to me saying that their engineers could find no fault. Imagine our annoyance when the kettle still continually switches off before reaching the boiling point. I contacted Dualit who maintained that their engineers could find no fault and therefore they are not prepared to do anything further. Absolutely astonished at their complete lack of customer service. I thought Dualit stood for quality - not any more. Do not buy!!
Was a little nervous about buying this as its expensive for a kettle.......but when you unpack it you can see its a quality item. I purchased the cream colour and it looks great. It is weighted really well, pours steady, is quieter than my last kettle, boils fast......and the limescale filter is superb. When doing some research I was worried that its not a fast single handed fill; by which I mean you have to pull up the hinged lid using 2 hands before you can fill it (my previous kettle flipped up quickly when you pushed the flippy button thing). But actually in operation this is great to use, and the lid works well. It has a top review from Which magazine and I can see why - great kettle.
