4.0 out of 5 starsArrived and Turned On Right Out of the Box
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 26, 2019
As I write this review this item has about 25% one star reviews, very high for a product.

After reading other reviews on other sites that rated it more highly, I ordered this not sure if I too would receive a machine that didn't turn on right out of the box. Mine was ordered and delivered at the end of January 2019 and I just wanted to say it didn't have any issues. If that changes, I'll update this review.

Obviously Cuisinart's manufacturer has some quality control issues to address, and perhaps they have by now.

Aside from that, right out of the box this seems more capable than the previous Cuisinart Mini food processor I owned. That one worked for nearly 15 years and I was happy with it. This one seems somewhat more powerful.

It's also got a larger work bowl and slightly larger base, but it's still what I wanted, a small machine for chopping nuts for desserts without having to use my large food processor (then fill up the dishwasher with its pieces), or for making a quick salad dressing.

Again, if it turns out I have issues, I'll update this review. Otherwise, my good review holds and I've been happy with the product.

UPDATE:

I usually use the small size Cusinart food processors pretty much only for chopping nuts for dessert recipes and making vinaigrette or sometimes mayonnaise. Today I made Cuisinart's own recipe for "Hummus for Mini Chopper" that you can find online at their site. Note the FOR MINI CHOPPER in that title.

The first step is to chop parsley leaves. This machine does this extremely poorly, less well than Cuisinart's smaller, less expensive versions (Mini Prep Plus, for instance). By the time I scraped the bowl a few times I may as well have just chopped it myself (I never had to scrape the bowl with the smaller versions, and with this one I never did get an acceptable chop on the parsley leaves).

It's pretty troubling to see how the Cuisinart name (and reliability) is being destroyed by the corporate greed of its parent company, and how sloppy even their own recipes are now.

The recipe for "Hummus for Mini Chopper" says, "...With machine running, drop garlic through feed tube." There's just one problem with that. There is no feed tube on the mini food processors.

The recipe continues on with "With the machine running, add the olive oil in a steady stream and process until the mixture is smooth and creamy." Again, you can't do that with this machine. There's no place to pour through the lid while the machine is running. (It worked just fine to add the olive oil to the mix in the bowl and then chop to combine, and for the record, real hummus recipes don't have olive oil in the mix, just drizzled over the top after it's made.)

The machine DOES chop garlic cloves very nicely, easily, and quickly.

For this recipe which was obviously just downsized in ingredients and not actually written for this type of machine as the title suggests, putting everything together inside the bowl made an acceptable and tasty hummus, but it's nowhere near as smooth and creamy as I can make in my Vitamix or my full-sized Cuisinart food processor. Further, this machine simply didn't have the power to do it smoothly. It made me wonder how long it would last running it for two minutes at a time as the recipe calls for on a regular basis before I burned out the machine (or developed cracks in the blade as others have reported here). Instead of running smoothly it was somewhat jerky for the entire two minutes called for in the recipe.

I'm going to stick to chopping nuts for dessert recipes, vinaigrettes, and mayonnaise only with this machine, which is what I bought it for, but knowing what I know now, I would have bought the Cuisinart Mini Prep instead. Having now owned both, I think the Mini Prep is the better machine for these small tasks when I don't want to have to fill up the dishwasher with the full-sized Cusinart food processor's parts.

I also tried to make almond flour in this machine and that wasn't very successful either. I had to stop before I made almond butter instead, but it was just for a Bundt cake so it worked either way. I wouldn't buy this for that purpose or try that again, though. The Vitamix can do it without any problem.

1.0 out of 5 starsUpdate 12/29: Not so happy anymore!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 26, 2018
Update 12/29/18: Not so happy anymore. After a month of moderate use, today I experienced a dangerous failure. The off button failed, and all of the safety stops that prevent the food processor from running failed. Even with the lid completely off, the food processor continued to run until I unplugged it. Back to Amazon it goes. I requested a replacement, but now, thinking it through, I don't know if I dare continue with another of this model.

Let me start by saying I purchased this food processor at the beginning of November. While I haven't had it long,(3 weeks), I have used it almost daily and I did use it extensively to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. I am very happy I took the chance and bought this one. Many of the negative reviews are describing issues with the older or previous version of this food processor. The unit that shipped to me must be the "latest", updated version of this model as there were two things that other reviewers complained about that I found improved.

First, the gasket in the lid was completely and easily removable. It was easy to clean both with a hand wash, or with the other parts in the top rack of the dishwasher. I read several reviews with complaints about the workbowl, lid and gasket being difficult to clean and unsanitary due to food sticking in the gasket and nooks and crevices in the rim of the bowl or the lid, or requiring a bottle brush to get the food bits out. I found the bowl/lid/gasket easy to disassemble and reassemble, and nearly effortless to clean by hand or machine. I never had to do anything more than a light wash with a dish cloth or sponge and never found any residual food particles stuck anywhere on the lid or in crevices on the rim of the bowl, even after kneading yeast dough that sticks to everything.

The second item that appears to be changed is the blue lights on the keypad that some have said are too bright, or blink erratically. On the keypad of my unit, the lighting is much more subtle. Only two keys, ON and Dough are outlined with the blue LED light. When plugging the unit in, nothing lights up. There is no blue light bar running across the top of the buttons as seen in some of the other customer photos. The outline around the On and Dough buttons only light up when they are pressed, and they stay on solid when the function is in use, they do not blink. Off and Pulse do not have any indicator lights at all. Pressing the pulse button causes On to illuminate when pulse is pressed, but it goes off again when pulse is released.

As far as the overall performance goes, for the most part, I found this food processor to be a joy to use. It is powerful and surprisingly quiet. The base is heavy enough that it stays put and it's easy to wipe down. I have made yeast dough and pie crust, chopped nuts, shredded cabbage, chopped onions and tomatoes, sliced both soft and firm vegetables and grated carrots and several kinds of cheese. The machine is powerful! It handled anything I threw at it with ease. I found that by partially freezing my cheese for 30 minutes instead of the recommended 15, most of my cheese block would shred without excessive bits left behind between the disc and the lid. At most, one or two small pieces approximately 1/4 inch square were left behind.

Things I love about this food processor:

The adjustable slicing disc. It is so nice to have so many variations in thickness without having to buy and store additional discs. It was easy to use, pull out of the bowl and adjust the thickness, and resume slicing something else.

The way the multipurpose blade "locks" into the bowl, allowing you to pour out the contents without the blade falling out. And the pour spout is great! It's dripless and mess free.

The way the lid attaches. It's so easy to just press down to engage and press the little buttons to remove. No trying to get everything to twist and slide.

The power! It breezes through anything you throw at it, and makes beautiful yeast dough in about 30 seconds.

The retractable cord. This should be mandatory on all countertop appliances!

Things I would like to see improved:
The small feed tube is somewhat large. This was great for fitting an 8 ounce brick of cheese without cutting it down, but not so good for carrots. If you try to shred a single carrot, pretty quickly the shredding disc will grab the carrot pull it under the lid and jam it between the disc and lid. If you shred several carrots at once packing the width of the feed tube, everything works perfectly. It would have been nice if the feed tube was a 3 piece with the existing two sizes plus one more small round that could accommodate a single carrot or piece of celery. (Or Brussels sprouts, or radishes)

The 4 1/2 cup workbowl was a little aggravating with liquids. It may be the somewhat shallow shape, or the speed of the blade, I'm not sure. It was fine with dry ingredients, chopping nuts, chopping a small onion. Liquid was kind of a disaster. My pizza sauce recipe that uses one 15 ounce can of diced tomatoes, less than half the capacity of the bowl, was a mess. A lot of the liquid splashed all up under the lid and the gasket, and then leaked down the outside of the bowl, making it necessary to disassemble and clean the lid and the outside of the unit before using the 14 cup bowl. I've made this sauce for years in the 4 cup mini bowl of my Kitchenaid food processor without any issues like this, so I'm confident it's a design thing and not a user error. Either the small bowl needs to be deeper or there needs to be a way to slow the speed down to keep it from being so splashy. I won't use the small bowl for liquids again.

The accessory storage box. It's nice to have a locking box that will keep all the discs and blades that came with the unit safely tucked away. It would be even nicer if it could accommodate any or all of the additional blades available to purchase. I would love to add the french fry blade to my set up but I don't want to have to come up with an additional safe storage situation. It seems like it would have been a no brainer to add another Inch or two to the height of the bottom drawer so that it could accommodate one or two more discs.

I wish they still had a medium sized bowl. Sometimes 4 cups is too small, and 14 cups is just way too big. Or sometimes, it might be nice to have a 10 cup or so bowl to slice onions and pepperoni into before removing it to whip up pizza dough in the 14 cup bowl. My old Kitchenaid processor had a medium bowl and I used it a lot. I wish this unit had the option, even if it had to be purchased separately.

Last, if we have to pull the gasket in and out all the time to clean the lid, chances are it's going to wear out. As of today, Cuisinart does not have the gasket as a separate part available to purchase. It comes installed on a replacement lid only. Hopefully that will change in the future.

Even with the minor irritation with the small bowl, I still really love this food processor. It's a workhorse and for the most part a pleasure to use.

This bowl has great capacity! Made well and is defiantly an upgrade from the older one with the holder for the blades. When I ordered it I also ordered the extra fine shredder and it is great for parmigiana cheese or shredded carrots! I am a Chef who appreciates excellent quality in my home appliances as well as for my catering company! I would definitely get another one as a Weddding or Shower gift!!

I really do like the design although I have not used it yet. I bought it for size and power. I don’t like the fact that the accessories do not have a storage case.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!

This is the same machine I saw on a PBS cooking show. It has the two baskets, both large and the small basket inside the large one. I have now used both baskets and that is why I waited to review the product. I read the directions before I used it to make sure I was using it machine correctly. It works extremely well whether you are using the small basket or the large one. If you are looking for a food processor, even if you are not looking for a dual purpose one, this is a great option to have in your kitchen. There are two brands I love to have in my kitchen one is Cuisinart and the other is Kitchen Aid.

After reading some of the other reviews I have decided to edit mine to add a bit more information. While I don't use this processor every day and to the to the intensity of some of the other reviews do, at this time. I am disabled and awaiting both back surgery and hip replacement surgeries for both of my hips. First, the intensity of how much I cook and bake is, yes, much less than what I used to, at this time, but I purchased this machine to last for the rest of our ( my husband and my) lives. We selected this one because I have other Cuisinart products in my kitchen that have never let me down. For example, I have a Cuisinart blender that I have owned now for more than 25 years and has only needed one small $30.00 part to correct and issue we have had with it. I too don't like it when product manufacturing is moved to China. I am an an American, a veteran and have been, until I retired, and a successful business women. I like things made here or in other developed nations where manufacturing is historically high quality. I am also from the Motor City area.

So, we chose this machine because of the die cast base, which makes it heavy. Does anyone out there know what die cast is? I do, I ran the human resources for a aluminum and magnesium die cast company here in Michigan. While the Chinese don't have it down like we do here in the US, they do a very good job, I have to admit it. Plus manufacturing quality is always run by the OEM. So if you have a problem with the machine it is on Cuisinart. So, I like it because It does not move when you use it. While I used to bake and cook more than I do now. I use it two to three times a week and it gets a workout. I pick it up and carry it myself, so does my husband, who also needs back and knee sergury.

I have not had problems with water collecting in the handle of the large basket. I have washed it both by hand and in the dishwasher, so for now this is a moot point with me.

I have used the top basket for cookie crust and the bottom for pie crust and other items. I have not used it for slicing vegetables because I typically do that by hand so I have fewer items to wash, however, I think I will use it next time I make vegetables to cook, eat raw for for salad slicing next time. I usually use my Ktichen Aid mixer for bread, I would not use my processor for that, because I rise it and and kneed it in the bowl. You can't beat a Kitchen Aid for making bread.

So, overall, even though, it is made in China, I love this machine. Every time I go to use it I have a ready and steady machine. If I ever have a problem with it, you will be the first to know. From the motor city girl.

It's easy to clean and set up. My only complaint is the grating. My old Cuisinart from 40 years ago grated much more consistent. I miss that. That is why I gave it 4 stars. The power is good. I do like the small cup for grinding small jobs--like nuts. It works well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect size for every day use dicing veggies, etc.
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 18, 2023

I have a full size Cuisinart. I only use it for certain recipes, and it takes up too much room on the counter. This little Cuisinart is perfect for everyday dicing and chopping of onions, carrots, celery, nuts, etc. It takes up little space on a counter, and it has been the answer to the lately laborious and often painful hand dicing and chopping with arthritic hands. So far I have pre-cut “chunks,” including two carrots, two celery sticks, and an onion, and diced or ground them between five and 15 seconds. I can highly recommend this product.

This is a good little chopper, but the first time I used it a small flange on the plastic bowl broke off (luckily not into the food). I think it should be sturdier, but I still use the chopper. It has two settings -- grind and chop. I don't really see a difference between the settings except that the blade rotates in the opposite direction. I have had good luck with using this item to chop nuts, but it did not do a great job of making cauliflower rice. It turned out more like cauliflower couscous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Versatile, Powerful "Up to the Task" machine ....with one glaring flaw
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 26, 2015
Color: Die CastPattern Name: Food ProcessorVerified Purchase
The Chief loves it.......Her comments have been ....."powerful ...... smooth .......versatile ...... POWERFUL ....... convenient ......large capacity ......really nice ..... hey, I can make butter in it ( 6-10 lbs a week !!) ......POW-POW-ERFUL .......nice adjustable slicer .....and more".
We process thousands of quarts of veg .... fruits ..... grains in a 700 sq ft kitchen....AND we have NEVER eaten a pre-packaged meal in 43 years. So, we give these puppies a workout. They sit among Champion Juicers, Vita-Mix blenders, Hobart Mixers, cream separators, meat bandsaws, grinders, grain mills, and a 6 burner Professional Stove sitting beside a monster Prairie Maid Wood Cookstove.
This processor is up to the task.
But, "The Mechanic" (me) has one beef. We started with a top-of-the-line other brand, it was a very good machine. The body was NEARLY COMPLETELY SEALED, with just a small vent hole pair on the bottom. With any of these, it is difficult, if not impossible to keep ALL of the liquid from leaking down the shaft, and seeping into the motor.
When our "other brand" seized up, I took it apart. The inside was corroded (cabbage, pepper, onion juice??!!) It was about 5 years old....so, it cost me about $1. a week to own that model at a $250 initial cost. Actually, I then took some vise grips, and penetrating oil, and loosened the bearings on the shaft......After about an hour of twirling, I got them free enough for it to begin spinning on its own. I chucked the motor up in a vise and ran it for a couple hours, adding oil to the bearings as it spun freer and faster. It works now, again. But it is obviously not as responsive or powerful as when new.
Back to this one.....IF YOU TURN IT OVER, IT HAS A LARGE SET OF OPENINGS FOR THE MOTOR COOLING FAN TO RUN AIR THROUGH.......HUH.......Those openings are a conduit for all of the juices that spill on the counter/cutting boards when we process 100 lbs of cabbage at a time for kraut.
I guess that I/you/we cannot expect "professional" grade, 20 year until first repair, machines any more. Look at what we put up with everywhere else. BUT, it would be nice to have engineers with IQ's above 90 working on items like this....AND DOING A LITTLE COOKING/PROCESSING ALSO. What we are now reduced to is calculating a "cost per week" until destruction. I DID BUY THIS PARTICULAR MODEL BECAUSE THE MOTOR HAD A 20 YEAR WARRANTY......BUT.....in attempting to get similar long warranties honored, I have noticed a trend in the companies response toward, " We do not guarantee against abuse, or failure to maintain the machine properly". " Your machine shows signs of misuse or failure to maintain properly." It usually takes a lot of phone/internet time to burrow through the layers of "DUH" that they throw up to deflect claims.
If I get this for $1. / week until it crashes, that is still probably a good value. For the occasional/hobby user.....it is probably an EXCELLENT choice.
Plus...the little flashing blue lights make it seem like a Science Fiction story, or a Twilight Zone in the corner of the kitchen.
