Be sure to buy the accident insurance!

The laptop has worked well for the past 8 months. Then all of a sudden, while it was still in my lap, one of the hinge pins broke. My son told me this was common with Dell. I called Dell to find out where to take it for repair. 40 minutes later, I learned it would not be covered, because obviously it was my fault. (I said it appeared to be a manufacturer's flaw, and was told if it was, it would have broken the first time I used it!) They would fix it, but I would have to pay $159 and mail it to them. By the time they sent me a box, I sent it to them, they fixed it and sent it back, it would be too late to take on vacation to edit photos. So we said we would take it to a local repair shop, and the service rep warned me that would void the warranty, which as far a we're concerned is useless already.
The laptop works fine, but as far as I'm concerned the service is lousy!
