Not bad, but marginal for video streaming
April 17, 2017
This is a capable unit but may or may not meet your needs if you plan to stream video with it. I found it to be slightly more laggy than my Morotola Droid Turbo 2 smartphone in general, and to take longer than the phone to connect with websites. My primary use for this was to stream video from Comcast, DirecTV and Netflix via my home wireless network on an ASUS RT-N66U wireless router.
The directions are correct - you will need a wired mouse and wired keyboard to set up the stick. I found that the first keyboard I tried was not recognized by the stick, but a second keyboard worked. The USB mouse I used worked first try. After setup, I switched to a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, which both worked fine. After setup, you need to leave time for Windows updates, although a couple of re-boots over an hour or so took care of this.
For me, the deciding issue was that streaming video sources continually paused (actually more a slight "glitch") once or twice a minute and hesitated just long enough to cause a visible and sometimes audible hesitation in the video stream. I worked this for a few days and couldn't improve it, so I decided to upgrade to a more capable model with a better processor, more RAM and more memory. Hopefully that will solve the problem and provide additional capability on the TV where I will use it.
A few years ago I would have been impressed with this unit, but in today's world it doesn't perform as I wish. I'm spending a lot more to upgrade to the BOXSTK2m3W64CC. I have that model compute stick on a 65" monitor at work, and it performs much faster with video and other sources.
