5.0 out of 5 starsBeautiful Console worthy of an Epic Game
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 1, 2018
I bought this as my first PS4 after swearing off this generation of consoles. But God of War reeled me in, and this bundle tipped me over the edge.

First, the PS4. The artwork is gorgeous. I love the detailing and coloring - it stands out well atop my black-on-black entertainment center. The controller looks fantastic as well. It's nice to have a standout controller that unequivocally shouts, "This is MY controller, and no one else's!" Setup of the PS4 was fairly easy, connected it to my 49" TCL 4k TV without issue. Took me a little while to get the PS4 fully configured, and I'm still having issues setting up my sons' child-aged profile on the device. But outside of that, the PS4 works great, is a solid performer and I really have no issues. Well, maybe one - it puts out a lot of heat, be sure to place it in a well ventilated place.

Now for the game. At this point I'm probably close to 2/3rds of the way through it, I haven't beaten it yet as I like to explore and find things, areas and characters. I've played - and beaten, all previous GoW games except for the mobile phone versions. I'm an unabashed fan of the series and am quite familiar with it. This version of GoW has just completely blown my mind! In previous games, they were fairly linear, mostly action and a moderate amount of story thrown in. Kratos's story through the previous entries really takes the Greek Tragedy and runs with it through the pantheon of their gods. But the thing about these games is you went from one battle to the next, flinging Kratos around as a nearly unstoppable rage monster that shredded his way trough his enemies. Not much else to it, really.

This version of GoW changes that, and instead builds a world ripe with lore and story to explore, find and figure out. You don't go rushing through enemies one pack after another like previous entries did (interrupted by the occasional puzzle), instead in this one you have time to reflect in between battles. There's dialogue to listen to. There's lore to read (and it's fascinating lore, too!) If you wish to jump battle to battle you can, but you miss out on so much if you do.

Despite the focus on story and lore, the combat is beyond satisfying. Kratos demonstrates that he is still the God of War multiple times over with brutal, effective combat maneuvers. With or without his Leviathan Axe, Kratos can and still will shred through his enemies. But now he has the help of his son, Atreus, who starts out as barely effective but grows to be a valuable asset in battle. The best part? You barely have to manage Atreus! Hit square to have him fire arrows, and hit D-pad Up to switch between different arrows (once different ones become available). That's it! This makes it so you're not distracted in combat and still have help when and where you need it.

Outside of combat the worlds are still grandiose, and the art direction is museum worthy. You can take a screenshot at almost any second in the game and it will be beautiful. The camera has been somewhat contentious for some players, and honestly I found it a refreshing change. In previous games, the camera would zoom way out to show you the grandeur and scale of the environment or the action that is happening. In this game, the closer camera shows a much more personal view of when a similar event occurs. In many cases you still get to see an epic event unfold, and it is still glorious, believe me! It just doesn't zoom way out like it did in previous games, and I absolutely love it!

Overall, I absolutely adore this game. It's epic, it has heart, it's *evolved* the franchise in a way that feels comforting and satisfying. I find myself loving every minute of playing this game and look forward to many hours of exploring all the nooks and crannies the developers crammed into the wold. The only thing I dread about this game is that eventually...it has to come to an end.

Let me start with the good stuff. Fast shipping. Console looks great. However now the bad part. control buttons have a hard time doing what they are supposed to in game. The title is mislabeled as a bundle when it isn't. I was sold just a console. After reaching out to the seller we came to an agreement that was satisfactory for both of us.

4.0 out of 5 stars Overall, a good console, worth the purchase if you want the Sony exclusives. The God of War edition is still kind of hideous.

While I still can't warm up to Sony's user-interface for the PS4, and while it doesn't play 4K UHD BluRay like the competition, this console does exactly what I bought it for: It plays some great games.

Pros:
+ Up to 4K resolutions on games/video, depending on the demands of the game/movie.
+ Works well with PSVR, and actually seems to be a bit better at maintaining a solid framerate than the vanilla PS4 when doing so.
+ Works well with external storage for games/media, which is entirely necessary, as 1TB is not enough.
+ Comes with one of the best current-gen games on the market. God of War really showcases the PS4 Pro quite well!
+ Sony has some pretty great exclusive titles, a solid 1st Party development program, good access to independent titles, and handles multi-platform games well.

Cons:
- User interface is clunky and disorganized. It needs an overhaul.
- Sony doesn't update the console as often as it should, so it takes a while for them to fix the bugs and to enhance the experience.
- On most multi-platform games, it underperforms compared to the competition.
- No 4K UHD BluRay support (less of an issue for many, but still a problem for me)
- A 1TB hard drive isn't enough even on a regular PS4. With the PS4 Pro, games take even more space. Expect to invest in more storage space.
- This particular God of War Limited Edition console is, quite frankly, ugly. Unlike other Limited Editions by Sony, this one just looks bad.
- No backwards compatibility. This means that many of the free PS+ games just won't work with it, and you'll have to buy ported versions of your old games (if they exist) if you want to play them.

Overall, a good console. Worth the purchase if you like the Sony exclusives. The God of War edition is ugly, but maybe you'll think otherwise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Of Both Worlds

I converted over to the Xbox One from owning PS4's and PS3's for most of my life and was not planning on returning to the PS platform. I have always found the PS menu counter intuitive and clunky, the exclusive games were meh and OMG the constant updates that used to take a half hour to complete killed any enthusiasm I had for sitting down and playing a game. Long story short when the God Of War bundle was announced and they released the trailers and initial preview I thought perhaps it would be time to give the platform another chance. The console looked a little gaudy but it came with the game and a cool looking controller so I took the plunge. So glad I did. The console looks great contrasting my black on black AV gear (including my XBox Scorpio unit), the controller is gorgeous and despite most of the console flaws still being there God Of War is a work of art. Now with the addition of PSVR I am now using this PS4 more than the Xbox. I wound never give up my Scorpio unit and Gold is great but it's great having the best of both worlds and highly recommend this bundle (if you can still get it) and if you have the spare money floating around try PSVR. It's an absolute marvel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best ps4 ever!!!!

This is amazing. I would give ten stars if I could. The PS4 gets hot though. Is that normal?

Anyway, this machine is the best ps4 I have ever used. And I tried all the models. The first one. The second version and the slim. This looks amazing.

VR:

Every VR game I have looks a thousand times better. And someone told me at GameStop that Skyrim wouldn't look better on the pro. I haven't tried the Skyrim on the pro yet but,all the games ive tried on vr are amazing and not blurry. So I'm assuming Skyrim will be better.

The control is awesome, the look it has is great. The design I love as well. I didn't know what it was until I played the game and realized it was the actual design of the axe on the PS4 haha

It's way bigger than a normal ps4 and it even uses a different power cord from the original. Comes with HDMI, power cord, USB cord for the controller, and the little mic.

Even the camera looks better.so happy with this purchase. If you didn't get one, then too bad. They sold out everywhere. Msg me. I might sell it for 25k hahahahahahahaha

5.0 out of 5 stars The design is perfect. Half Matte Half Gloss and marked with runes.

This is my second Pro. Sits right next to the black one that my girlfriend plays on. I knew this game was a masterpiece so I wanted the proper console to go with it. As far as physical design goes, the grey they used has done a wonderful job showing the difference in atmosphere for the series. It feels more and more like Dark Souls with how dull and cold it is. So I'm quite pleased with the runes and hints of color all over the console. It's quite fitting.

As for the performance of a Pro I find it to be more than adequate for the price point and as others have stated, there's a slew of applicable exclusives that milk the power to enhance the games. Even for multiplats or the games that have no upgrades the supersampling looks extremely nice. If you're considering a PS4 just get the Pro and you won't regret having the true experience always meant for the PS4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Bundle, Awesome Game!

The console is really beautiful. The God of War design and visual elements are really beautiful and unique. The system has a light gray matte finish. To be honest I wished it had been another color, like the usual bright red that is associated with God of War. Even the dark red of the Monster Hunter bundle looks better. I guess Sony wanted to play it safe with this one. Nonetheless it is very unique looking. The controller looks really nice too, and complements the system well. As for the game, I'm only a few hours in but so far so great. It has a Gears of War, over the shoulder view and movement style, although Kratos feels much more fluid and smoother. The graphics are breath-taking, and the experience is really cinematic like Uncharted 4. There are no cut-scenes! It really feels like you're playing a movie. This is definitely a keeper. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice looking console but agree with other reviewers

This replaced my white destiny 2 ps4 pro in the family room. Very nice looking console but agree with other reviewers, they could have went more epic with the console color and design. I disagree with the other reviewer stating the console is loud. I own the Xbox one x as well and am not partial to either system. I find thr xbx console to be a tad louder but neither produce excessive sound.

As far as the game, I am 2 hours into it and wow. The game so far does not disappoint and a lot of fun to play. It's an interesting twist of Kratos living a human life and seeing the someone mature/ softer side of the character. I am super happy with the purchase. I did not need another ps4 pro but GOW is one of my all time favorite series and couldn't resist this limited edition console. Q
