No surprises with this drive, compared to the 900P the only reason to go 905P is the capacity, the speed increase just isn't THAT big. But why go Optane at all? Speed, plain and simple. this isn't going to do a lot for your gaming rig (though it does make a decent difference in some games), but if you are running a lot of VM's, a lot of DB load, anything that starts climbing the queue depth there just isn't any real competition.
But at this pricetag...if IOPS and "queue depth" don't mean anything to you...stick with Samsung 970 EVO and Pro series drives.
The product works flawlessly, hooked into an X99 ASUS Rampage V paired with a 7960X. I write software, and builds are really random I/O heavy workloads, and ANYTHING you can do to speed up a C++ build helps.
The only place I really notice the performance is when I reboot Windows once every 3 or 4 months and I can instantly start using my PC no matter how much crap is loading in the background. I'm sure it helps my builds, as well, but I never benchmarked them, and I find comfort knowing that there's probably not much more I can do to make them go faster.
After buying this SSD and slotting it into my system, my system immediately gained superpowers. It can now upgrade its parts to better parts instantly and with no cost for me. This thing may even be dangerous; it's so fast that it could level the US in a single second if it wanted to. Overall, I highly recommend this SSD. Thank you, AMD!
