This can works perfectly for our cloth diapers. The Planet Wise pail liner fits just right. The stainless steel exterior is an appealing color for our nursery. The thick exterior provides perfect odor control, even if diapers sit for 2 or 3 days. Couldn't be happier. Excellent investment.

I ended up getting mine for $59 at bed, bath and beyond. I This is a 30 liter can with the stainless steel top. I'm upgrading from a "way to small" under the sink trash bin. This can is supposed to hold 8 gallons. I'm giving this a 4 star because standard bags in the US are not the same size as Liters. I'm using hefty's 13 gal draw string bags. Whenever I empty my trash I always end up putting something else into the bag so I'm not wasting the extra space. I really wanted the 45 liter can with the butterfly opening but it is priced around $179 and I couldn't justify the cost. This brand is good. Simplehuman has a nice liner, and opens and closes nicely so you really don't have hold the lid open. No smell and you don't have to touch your own trash. My kitchen can't accomodate an under the sink trash bin, so this do nicely. BTW the stainless steel ones with the bag-ring holders will drive you crazy. You get what you pay for.

I bought mine at Target. It seemed the perfect size for a family of four (we recycle so we don't need a can that will hold large soda bottles and empty cereal boxes). It also looked good enough to keep in plain sight in the kitchen. I soon discovered that it dents easily and the dents can't be pounded out completely. It's also flimsy for a trash can that costs over $60. I'm returning mine.

The good:
Very nice looking product, as are all the Simplehuman trash cans. My version has a black plastic lid, the one pictured looks like it's all metal. The opening mechanism is quite smooth, no annoying "clang" as the lid closes (like with some of their other products).
The bad:
In practice, the tall, round form factor of the round cans just doesn't work. The can isn't wide enough to accomodate empty boxes or anything much more bulky than a wadded up piece of paper. This might not be an issue if you're planning to use it for a room other than a kitchen. But the kitchen was your planned destination for your trash can, I'd strongly recommend getting one of the cans with a wider opening (the rectangular or butterfly shapes). Otherwise, almost any normal kitchen trash (empty food boxes, 2L soda bottles, etc) will clog the can and reduce the usable disposal space to almost nil.
The can dents extremely easily, not taking much more pressure than it would to dent an empty aluminum soda can. Shallow dents can be pounded out with a good whack to the inside of the can, but any deep dent will leave an ugly mark on the "skin" of the can.
Standard bulk trash bags aren't a good fit, being wider and shorter than what would fit this can. You'll end up wrapping half the bag around the top to take up the slack, and the bag won't reach the bottom of the can. Simplehuman sells fitted bags for their cans, but they're like $6/20 count, about the same price as a bulk roll of 250 at Walmart.
It would be nice if there were some sort of clip to hold the bag in place. There's a bit of a rim at the top of the plastic liner, but it's not quite enough to hold it tightly in place.
Conclusion:
Beautiful, but without the function to match.

I finally bought myself a nice expensive garbage can. It looked and worked perfectly for a week. But now I'm guessing the pedal broke and the lid doesn't open or shut properly. I don't have any children in my home and have only used this garbage can in my kitchen.

This SimpleHuman 30L trash can is like the 6-inch stilettos of trash cans: Very attractive, but totally impractical. Yes, it's very easy on the eyes, with its brushed steel (fingerprint-resistant) exterior and clean, smooth lines. The slow-close lid seals the can shut, hiding your garbage out of sight (and containing some of its odor). It seems more like a modern art sculpture or piece of designer furniture than a waste disposal container. But at the end of the day, this is just a trash can - a very expensive one, but a trash can nonetheless. It's supposed to be a convenient place to temporarily store trash until you take it out for city/county pickup. Unfortunately, this trash can makes the last part of the equation exceedingly difficult. When you use the custom-sized "G" plastic bags, it takes two people and a TON of elbow-grease to remove the bag from the interior plastic liner can once it's full of trash. (Perhaps it's because of the static cling that causes the trash bag to stick to the interior plastic can). The can can only be loosely filled with trash, otherwise the bag is a hassle to remove, not to mention the bruised palms and aching wrists caused by your efforts to yank the bag out of the interior can. It's a terrible waste of money and plastic to have to throw out the trash when the bags are only two-thirds full. (Especially given how much more expensive the SimpleHuman custom-sized trash bags are than regular trash bags). Plus, the 30L trash can itself is already on the small side, so being limited to filling it up only 2/3 of the way means that, practically-speaking, it can't hold enough to be suitable for use as a main kitchen trash can.Read more ›
