List Price: $24.95 Price: $14.29 You Save: $10.66 (43%) "Here’s another year’s worth of management wisdom, all in one place." - By Robert Morris (Dallas, Texas)
This is the latest volume in a series of anthologies of articles selected by the editors of Harvard Business Review because they offer “the definitive management ideas of the year from Harvard Business Review.” The bonus article, “What Is Disruptive Innovation?” all by itself is worth far more than the total cost of this volume. Moreover, the total cost of the eleven articles would cost about $70 if purchased individually as reprints.
The material provided will help executives to achieve strategic objectives that include these, each preceded by “How to”:
o Rethink the way they work in the face of accelerating automation
o Transform their business using a platform strategy
o Apply design thinking to create innovative products and/or services
o Identify where excessive collaboration may be holding their people back
o See the theory of disruptive innovation is a new light
o Recognize the signs that their ... full review(6) -

This book had a lot of interesting points. Ordered this book for a book club at work and it facilitated a lot of great conversation. Some of the examples are a little too detached for line managers, but it makes for great talking points.(66) -

"Wow!!!" - By Put-Put
First of all, I know a bunch of people might be worried that I bought the wrong copy of EVE AND ADAM.. thanks, but I know that it's only chapters 1-5. I had ordered this from the library, and I couldn't wait for it to get here, so I got a head start. Not only that, but I love that they offer free choice. 1-5 stuff because you can see if you really want to get the book or if it already sounds boring. I love Michael Grant' s writing style... the book literally sucks you in... DO NOT HESITATE TO BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

List Price: $28.00 Price: $16.17 You Save: $11.83 (42%) "A great guide for making rapid progress without guessing" - By Graham Henshaw
If you like placing big bets on untested guesses then this book might not be for you - save your money and buy a Powerball ticket. However, if you'd prefer to launch something new into the world with a bit more knowledge about how customers might respond, then I highly recommend Sprint.
There's a lot to like about the book, but I'll start with the tone. It suits the methodology perfectly - it's energetic, it doesn't seem to take itself too seriously, and it is direct. It's a refreshing read and has the effect of making you want to try the process right away.
From a format perspective, the book is primarily laid out according to the five days of a sprint which further helps with its applicability. The five main sections of the book cover each of the five days of a sprint with practical tips, lessons, ... full review(220) -

List Price: $35.00 Price: $26.73 You Save: $8.27 (24%) "Think Wrong!" - By Alison Smith (Tennessee)
This book is different from any that I have really ever read. The authors make you think outside the box and try to get you to see where you can expand your thinking and improve on ideas. The authors take you through lots of businesses that have used the ideas in this book and how they grew from them and became better.
One of the ideas that emerged in Long Island City, Queens was great for kids and parents too. The creative team hacked the classic game of Horse and turned it into a literacy game instead. Faceball emerged (short for Family and Community Engagement), first as spelling but teachers quickly adapted the game to include lessons in Geography and Math. This project helped keep kids engaged while on summer break so they did not lose ground in the months that they were away from the classroom. Faceball quickly became ... full review(38) -

John Adams is going through a bit of a revival these days-a development about which he no doubt would be both pleased and puzzled. This is the third Adams biography I have read in the past year, also taking in the recent books by John Diggins and David McCullough.
All three books give Adams his due-something largely denied him in his own time. They capture the iconoclastic nature of his personality as well as his intellectual power and accomplishments. Diggins focuses on Adam's Presidency, so his narrative is somewhat restricted, and , in fact, his style is as well. McCullough on the other hand is his devilishly detailed self, sometimes to the extent of burdening the reader with more than he cares-or needs-to really know about things incredibly trivial and marginal to the story at hand.
For my money, this biography by Grant is the ... full review(21) -

I've been reading and enjoying the Grant County books since the beginning and love the Atlanta series too, so I'd consider myself as a big fan of Karin Slaughter, then last year she went and combined the two series with the fantastic "Genesis" featuring Grant County regular Sara Linton moving to Atlanta and working with characters Will Trent and Faith Mitchell. This year she's done it again but this time Sara goes back to Grant County for Thanksgiving where she's brought into helping the suspect of the murder of a college girl which originally looked like suicide. Because of some crooked goings on with the local police force (featuring the return of Lena and Frank plus a few others) Will is called to help with the investigation (Faith stays in Atlanta to give birth to her baby).
When I started this book I literally couldn't stop - it is ... full review(427) -

****** The following review is for the small hardcover version of "Benjamin Franklin Wit and Wisdom" which sells on Amazon for about $4.70, not for "Poor Richard's Almanack".******
If you learn 50% of what's in this book, you'll learn 90% of what life's all about half the time. Except math. Really, EQ or IQ, B. Franklin was probably the savviest American that ever lived, and anyone can learn from this little book. Especially Congress.(164) -

Price: $2.99 "Read the Whole book first then carry this around as a reminder" - By In love with the desert southwest (Philadelphia PA)
I loved the book as it explained so much about how creative people bring their ideas to reality. Original thinkers are not wild and crazy except about that which they are disrupting. His examples are perfect. Read this book then buy the condensed version to carry on your device!(1)
