"Typical textbook - captures important concepts, gives good examples, but is a bit long-winded" - By Christine Behrens-Hoguet
Typical marketing text books full of interesting cases and examples. The writing is at times a bit boring and sterile, and I don't like that definitions of important concepts are not highlighted enough, let alone reiterated in the margins, as it is done in many other such texts. Chapters tend to be a bit long, but it is a fine text book. I'm reading it as an MBA student, and must say this book is very much geared towards undergrads about to start their first job (this is obviously not the author's fault, but in case a professor reads this, this might be worth noting).(87) -

If you're looking for specific advice, this isn't the book for you. But there are some great anecdotal accounts that really got my creative juices flowing. It's short enough that I read it in an hour or so. Then I was up half the night coming up with crazy marketing ideas for one of my projects. None of them are even remotely related to what the author was talking about, but the book just got my brain working at a different wave length than my normal boring marketing approach. Thanks Mr. Holiday for the inspiration.(707) -

"Marketing Made Easy In Five Minutes" - By Brenda From Maryland
This book packed a lot of information in 6 pages and I was able to read it in 5 minutes. It helped me to understand marketing, so that I could understand why those were pushing (upselling) their products. If you have to push to sell a product or products, you're doing it wrong. Pushing to sell your product(s), scares your potential market away. One needs to have faith in their market, ensuring their product(s) fills a need. If it fills a need, the product(s) will sell.(235) -

I have been in the "business" for years. I picked up this book because I had a little creativity block. I think this book is more designed for someone starting out than someone established in the business. That being said I made it three quarters of the way through the book and was so excited about an idea I got early on that I stayed up all night drawing out a plan.
I may be biased because I come from the same world as the author - however, I think this is a great read for everyone from junior to President. We sometimes forget what made us successful in the first place. I also thing learning to write copy is a great skill to have for resume and cover letter writing as well as music, poetry or fiction if that's your hobby.

AMAZING BOOK
After I read The Ultimate Guide to Google Adwords.... I had to check this book out - AND IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT
I was also taking a paid online FB advertising course (while reading this book as 2nd reference) - and I found myself waiting for my class to catch up....
My favorite part about this book is that - not only does it teach you the entire FB Ad platform... But it even connects pieces around the FB funnel as well (landing pages, e-mail etc)
One thing that could be improved is the clearness of the pictures. If you're reading on a kindle paperwhite (like me) the figure examples will be slightly blurry. It helps a little to maximize it though
Overall - 5 star book. Thank you so much(60) -

I am starting a cash-flow business and wanted to learn about the concept of marketing. This book helped reframe my understanding of marketing by showing me what is reality versus what consumers perceive. The reframing is mainly understanding that marketing is not a battle of products, but a battle of perception in the consumer's mind.
Three ideas that stood out are:
1. Be first in your category. It will make all the difference because you will be first in the mind of the consumers.
2. Focus on one product instead of "line extension" which means making 12 flavors of jam.
3. If you are second in the category, don't try to copy the winner. Own a different word than the owner does.
There are many more rules. I can foresee that I will read this again and agin over the years because it's simple, ... full review(391) -

Why reinvent the wheel when you have the soundest principles in advertising at your fingertips? Although Ogilvy's book is almost 25 years old, it's jam packed with timely instruction, insight, and examples. Or perhaps because it is 25 years old. Ogilvy quotes colleague Bill Bernbach:
"It is fashionable to talk about changing man. A communicator must be concerned with unchanging man ... The creative man with an insight into human nature, with the artistry to touch and move people will succeed. Without them he will fail."
Ogilvy had insight in spades, practical experience, common sense, a passion for research as well as creativity, and above all, a relentless focus on selling. Pick any few paragraphs at random and all those qualities will shine through. Among the many ideas I found really helpful--
1. Branding means giving your product personality. (For example, the man in ... full review(276) -

"Excellent Read" - By R. Andre Vachon
This book is required reading for anyone in business and a must-annually-re-read for anyone in sales and marketing. It contains great insights into advertising techniques and approaches that make logical sense instead of half-hearted advertising fumbles. (I took off one star for occasional ambiguity.) Overall, I highly recommend reading this book!(111)
