"Enhance with sound effects!" - By JPS (Georgia, United States)
I've played this game about 4 times so far. It is my new favorite game. Since there are so many reviews about how the game works, I will just go over some of the things you can do to enhance your experience. First, watch the TableTop episode (on YouTube) to get the hang of how the game works. Also, download a "Betrayal at House on the Hill" app so you can keep track of everyone's Stat points. For the game I bought, summer 2015, most of the stat clips were just fine, but about 1 or 2 cards' worth were too loose, so we used the app to backup all the Stat information. Then, download a Spooky Sound Effect app. There are lots of them to choose from. I have the stat card app on my phone, and a spooky sound effect app ... full review

"Best Strategic Game Ever Made" - By Chris Riesgraf (Minnesota, USA)
Simply put, it's the best strategic game made. Little is based on luck (certain pieces will help, but everyone get's a pretty even share) and the rest is based on strategy. A little like risk, but without the luck of the dice. Another great aspect of it, is unlike some of the other games, there are numerous way you can win. Some will try and get the most stock in the biggest chain, some will nickle and dime there way to the finish, and still others with ride a hotel chain for three to four takeovers.

I only have the older versions bought on ebay, but I will be getting one from amazon shortly. If you like a game that will not last over an hour, allow all players to finish at the same time, and be difficult enough to hold your attention game after game for years to ... full review

"Never played it before. Loved it on first playthrough." - By CN (California, USA)
The game board is very well made and looks beautiful too, with sharp lines and good color. The pieces the, selves are cardboard, and although this disappointed me at first, the pieces are actually some tough-ass cardboard if I ever saw it. Rulebook is clear enough. No disappointments in production quality.

Gameplay is tense and I remember multiple times being immersed in the game and the players. I remember everyone writing down orders as fast as they could. I remember being betrayed and betraying others. 10/10 would play again. If i could find more players...

"a little bit of luck and a lot of pirates" - By Matthew Cordeiro
Sword & Skull is a great family game - it's colorful, it can be played in less than an hour, and it has an even balance of luck and strategy. The object of the game is to be the first player to defeat or pay off the pirate king. In the dozen or so times I've played, nobody has ever reached the payoff amount, and the game has always ended with someone taking their chances in battle.

The game board reminds me a lot of monopoly. The players move in a clockwise square around the edge, collecting crew cards that are grouped into different locations. Some of the crew cards improve your fighting ability, some allow you to collect gold from other players, and some do both. Other spots on the board force you to do battle with other pirates and monsters (and ... full review

"Makes Trivial Pursuit look easy" - By Michael Ceciliani (New York City)
I had this game when it first came out. It came out shortly after Trivial Pursuit, around 1982 or so. It was Avalon Hill's answer to TP. It has six categories in the same colors as TP. This game is TP with a college theme. I recently brought it my Wednesday Gaming Group here in NYC, after having it in the closet for a few years. Here's how it works:

Everyone puts their piece in the Dean's Office to start. Rolling the die, you advance on the board to one of the six categories, which are:

    Blue - Communications
    Pink - Social Sciences
    Yellow - Science & Technology
Brown - Health & Phys Ed
Green - Fine Arts & Humanities
Orange - Student Union - TV, radio and comic strips

Each of these categories has its own school. You go through your four years of college ... full review

"Absurd price!" - By D. Granaman (Omaha NE)
This is a great game, but BUY IT ELSEWHERE! This is an absurdly high price for what appears to be a very heavily worn copy.

There are usually a half dozen on eBay at any given time and most appear to be in *far* better shape than this one. My wife just today bought one on eBay for $80.99 that did not even have the cards puched out yet. It was basically new, but the box had been opened.

"Monopoly on Steroids" - By Mark Schneider (Fitchburg, MA)
This is an excellent game to play if you have a couple of hours to waste on a rainy afternoon.

The concept and rules are very easy to learn and understand. Played this game about 100 times when I was a kid. I had my game for about 25 years before it fell apart.

The title says it all. This game is like Monoploy on Steroids!!!

"Playable in Solitaire Mode" - By Malcolm Brown (Alaska)
This game can be played in the solitaire mode, which is why I rated it so highly. This game is tactics based versus strategy based, which is the case for most of the other Axis & Allies games. the tactics are not very subtle, especially as the Allies actions are time sensitive due to the ten turn limit of the game. the lack of subtlety is not a bad feature and actually makes it possible to play the solitaire mode somewhat objectively. The miniatures and the map board are also very nice.

"Expands and Changes Avalon Hill's Civilization Boardgame" - By Stephen Mann (NY, USA)
Not a game in its own right, but an expansion set for the original [[ASIN:B000IXL33W Civilization: Game of the Heroic Age [BOX SET]]] game.

When new, this used to cost around $40 which was steep and about ten dollars more than than base set cost me.

What you get in the box is a booklet of rules that change those in the base set, new civilization cards that replace the ones in the base set, new commodity cards that augment those in the box set [EDIT 2/5/14] a new civilization track checksheet so you can play with 8 players and nothing else.

The map printed on stiff card that expands the board in the base set that I could have sworn came in the set is in fact a figment of my imagination brought on by age and not having played the game in megayonks, as was ... full review

"the best 2 player game!" - By Logan McKinstrie
Great game for 2 players. I went to a specialty board game store in Madison, WI, with hundreds of games. I asked the owner for recommendations on 2 player games, since it's usually just my boyfriend and I. He recommended this one, and I wasn't super excited about it (I have an aversion to history, and this seemed like a "period' game). I actually let it sit on my shelf for over 2 years before trying it, but now we play it all the time. It's really portable since it's just two decks of cards, so we bring it on vacation with us all the time. We've played with my boyfriends parents, as well as with younger siblings, and everyone loves the game (that's why I'm purchasing again through amazon- gifts!) It's a great mix of skill and luck if you're looking for something that anyone can play.

Item as described. Dice may not be original, but that is nonessential. All pieces and cards seen to be accounted for. Some very slight wear. Definitely excited and grateful. Thanks.

"The second best air combat board game ever, behind the FIGHTING WING Series." - By Botnik Roller (Thunder)
In my opinion, this was the best air combat board game I've ever played, until knowing the spectacular FIGHTING WING series.

The components, unfortunately, followed the patterns of old Avalon Hill. The map board is incredible dull. Comparing it with the map board of "KNIGHTS OF THE AIR" or "RICHTHOFEN'S WAR" is impossible. Plane counters are small and also dull, but at least they have different colors for the three Air Forces included: Luftwaffe, RAF and USAAF.

The Aircraft Cards are the heart, body and mind of the game. Each represents a famous aircraft of World War II in the Western Theater of Operations from 1939 through 1945 (yes, you will miss a lot of airplanes here, but the most famous are all there). The cards are colored and very well designed, and the special characteristics and exceptions for each aircraft are printed on them, easing the necessity ... full review
