I bought this game for my 9-year-old son. While it was fun to play, we seemed to be able to hang all the pieces. One day I happened to be at a thrift store and there was a set for sale - so I bought it. I am so glad I did - this game is way more fun with more pieces. While we did discover that you could make the base twice as high with the second set - the weight caused it to topple over. So if you do buy two sets, just use the regular sized base and all of the squiggly pieces. My 5-year old likes playing it by himself and getting all the pieces to balance symmetrically (I should have taken a picture, as it was pretty cool).(2,584) -

Super fun game! I bought this game based on the reviews and am so glad I did. It has quickly become our favorite!! I will admit, when I read the directions I was a little concerned and couldn't see how this was going to be fun. My family was looking at me with scowls on their faces also unconvinced (3 teenagers 15-18). But we decided to give it a try. Once we started playing the fun was like wildfire. Now it is our go to game. Anyone we invite to play with us always asks us to describe it and we try but end up saying just 'play' you'll see how much fun it is. I highly recommend it!(891) -

We really wanted to love this one, as my child specifically asked for a ring toss game for a birthday party. It looks great, and the handy tote is a great selling point for it. We have had this item for many years, and it is still our favorite board game. You can develop strategy over time, but even if kids are just matching the animals it can still be fun because someone will eventually "win." It is one of the few games that as an adult, I haven't tired of playing. Games are finished rather quickly, so you don't have to block out a long period of time to play. Rules are easy to learn and explain. I recently bought another copy of this game for one grandson's classroom. It isn't as well-known as some other games, so could make a nice gift item.(606) -

I played this board game with a mix of adults and jr. high kids. You'd probably like this game if you like other family games like Apples to Apples, Balderdash, Cranium, etc.
Reasons I like this game:
1. Easy to learn. Everyone understood how to play easily.
2. Keeps everyone active. No waiting for your turn.
3. Play a little or a lot. One round can be done in less than 30 min, but you can do more and play for hours. We played a few rounds.
4. Learn whats going on in other people's heads. I found it fun and interesting to see what answers others wrote down and to try to guess what they would write down. One card was "rich people hobbies" and I wrote down boating and traveling, and one kid wrote ... full review(436) -

We came across Peaceable Kingdom's cooperative games in a small toy store in our town, and we're hooked! The first one we bought was Hoot Owl Hoot, which we enjoy a lot too. However, Mermaid Island is by far my daughter's favorite game. The object of the game is to get all three of the mermaids to "mermaid island" before the Sea Witch gets there. To get to the island, all of the players have to cooperate rather than compete against each other. Moreover, there is the opportunity to learn how to play strategically - for example, players must decide which mermaid to move forward, or whether to use a "wand" to move the Sea Witch back one space, and so forth. It's not so complicated that children would get frustrated, but it has enough complexity for children to learn how to make the best strategic choice.

Bought this for my son for Christmas and honestly figured it would just be one of those games that gets played once or twice and then stuffed in a closet for the rest of eternity. However, we've found ourselves pulling this game out on multiple occasions to play. It's nice because you can have 2-4 (or more, I suppose) players, and it doesn't take an insanely long time to finish a game (*cough* Monopoly *cough*). Even my 73 year old mom was hooting and hollering when she and her teammate completed the patterns.
For ~$15, I would definitely recommend this game to be added to the family closet. My only *complaint* (if you can even call it that) is the limited number of pattern cards you get with it. I believe there was around 10. However, a simple google search for "bingo patterns" or similar will yield you plenty ... full review(1,648) -
