Brand/Story not only highlights the brands and history of famous designers such as Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang, it shows smaller, lesser known brands such as Johnny Cupcakes and Ginch Gonch and presents them with the same respect. The ins and outs of all of the individuals and brands in this work are unique in their own right and Joe does a fantastic way of showing this. The importance of branding is number 1 and the fashion and individuals behind the brands come second. The stories are intriguing, from Ralph Lauren to Brini Maxwell, and each chapter definitely instills lessons to be learned. Accompanying the stories, the discussion questions at the end of the chapters encourage the readers to do further research beyond the book and use the internet as well as traveling out to stores to witness brands develop and grow in real life.(45) -

I've taken a while to get to this book.
I previewed it on NetGalley - read about 20 pages and had to put it down, then read about 20 more and had to stop. When I went back, I couldn't access it anymore so had to buy it. The reason for putting it down was absorbing/using the things in it!
This isn't a buffet of information - it's better! There's a lot of facts, figures, statistics and a lot of studies and showing what to do and how to do it. It's over 200 pages jam packed of information that will be used differently by a small direct sale farm like us than a large business in the city - but that both can use to their advantage!
I'd already started using photos, videos, etc. This book showed how to use them BETTER. How to tweak it and ... full review(73) -

Price: $2.99 "A must-have book for entrepreneurs looking to establish their brand..." - By Nick Daniel
This is a book for creative entrepreneurs who are trying to get their brand recognized. Cindy Stagg highlights the importance of story-telling to build your brand. If you want to make money - tell a better story. The author gives a wide range of examples, from companies like AT&T, Nescafe, and State Farm Insurance, to show how a commercial can tell a story that aligns with the lives, hopes and dreams of customers. She also provides a detailed breakdown of what makes a great story - including tension, climax and resolution. The author also gives an excellent analysis of the way stories work psychologically to drive customers towards a sale. This is a great book for learning the art, and importance, of story-telling in business.(34) -

I was squashed in seat 10F on a very full flight from London to Lisbon when it hit me. I don't have a strong personal brand story. I have a public corporate persona and you can google my work, but I'm still hiding really. I started to wonder what might happen to my career if I shared more personal stories - stuff "closer to the bone" as Heather Pemberton Levy would say.
The revelation came from reading her great little book "Brand meet STORY". It's a short and immensely practical guide on what to DO about story creation and telling. I bet you've heard it said many times before - people like stories and you should tell more of them if you want to get your point across. Great Leaders tell stories. But we are not all classics reading English Language grads are we? What's easy and intuitive for ... full review(15) -

Price: $0.00 "Great book. Totally hits the nail." - By Marc Wajsberg (Belgium)
Most, if not all, marketeers and advertisers are confronted with the reality of strongly diminished returns on their ad spend.
These last years we've been bombarded with books regarding new media, with terms such as online advertising, social media and content marketing. Although those are very important, as the digital world is where the consumers is spending more and more of his time and attention, I find that the big picture is often missing in those books.
In this fascinating book Erik Saelens not only gives us the big picture, but justifies his analysis by painting a clear canvas of the current situation. The book is chock full of international examples that clarify his story.
A book that should stimulate any marketeer's thinking. And alas worry most of us at the same time.
A solid recommendation.(2) -
"Start mattering now" - By Rick Yvanovich (Saigon, Vietnam)
Really hammers home the fact that Marketing is a story, a story that needs to matter rather than something that needs to be forgotten. Marketing of today is also different from the marketing of yesteryear and we really need to change our attitude about what marketing is before we find ourselves as extinct as the dinosaurs. The choice is your, read this book and fall in love with it and what it communicates and start mattering or don't and learn how little you mattered to your (ex)customers.(102) -

Arthur Shapiro is not only a booze maven, he's also a first-rate storyteller. I was entertained and even shocked by this bundle of engrossing fun facts to know and tell. Not since David Sax's "Save the Deli" have I been so captivated by a business that is completely unfamiliar to me. You don't have to love booze to love this book. But if you do, it will only fortify the bond!(16) -

List Price: $14.99 Price: $14.95 "Great book for browsing." - By David M. Giltinan (San Francisco)
This was an interesting read, though the word 'surprising' in the title seems misplaced. Evan Morris is creator of the award-winning website "The Word Detective" and author of a syndicated newspaper column, and a book, of the same name. As the name suggests, it deals primarily with word origins and etymology. This book is very much in the same vein as "The Word Detective" - workmanlike, reliable, with a certain understated humor.
While I respect and enjoy his work, occasionally I find myself wishing that he were a tad less buttoned-down, that he would let his enthusiasm get the better of him a little more often. There's not the flair, the irrational exuberance about words and language, that one finds, say, in the work of someone like Paul McFedries. As a result, Morris's work, though dependably interesting, never quite takes flight in the way that one feels it ... full review(13)
