"How to achieve faster innovation and higher productivity from a successful implementation of IoT" - By Robert Morris (Dallas, Texas)
Note: Amazon US now has a policy that ensures preferential treatment only of reviews of verified purchases. Whether or not anyone reads other reviews by those who borrow copies from friends or check them out of libraries remains very much in doubt. Dumb policy.

    * * *

Opinions are divided as to the origin of the term “Internet of things” (IoT), probably in combination with the emergence of RID (radio frequency identification device) but I much prefer the term “Internet of everyone and everything” (IoEE) because of a personal aversion to the word “things.” but, more to the point, it is more accurate and more inclusive.

That said, I agree with Maciej Kranz that the Internet of Things “will significantly impact and change how global companies conduct business. IoT technologies will transform the manufacturing environment; it will change more than it has in the past ... full review

"Unlike any other business book!" - By Paul Ferraro
"The Purpose is Profit" is unlike any other business book I have read. I normally walk away "wanting more".... not after reading this book.

Ed not only gives sound philosophical advice, but also real world examples and actionable steps to ensure success. The beauty of this book is that it can be a quick, enjoyable business read for some, or a "gospel" for others who are thinking about fulfilling a dream of entrepreneurship.

The Startup Roadmap alone provides the knowledge you can spend years trying to acquire, and is frankly worth its weight in gold.

"Essential Reading For Startup Founders" - By TProphet (Seattle area)
As a startup founder, I'm experiencing situation after situation that is made easier having read this book. Running a startup isn't glamorous. It's a really tough slog and this book does not mince words. Most business books by luminaries of the caliber of Ben Horowitz are just so much literary masturbation, filled with glittering generalities and advice far removed from the trenches of actually building a business. Not so much with The Hard Thing About Hard Things. This is deep, gritty, relevant stuff straight from the trenches of building an eventually successful technology startup in quite possibly the worst-ever economic environment for technology startups.

We're just getting started, and this book has already been exceedingly helpful. Reading The Hard Thing About Hard Things is a little scary as a founder, because you'll learn a lot about what can go wrong--and indeed, very much can go wrong. It certainly has ... full review

"Steve Blank's Books Are Worth Millions, If Not Billions of Dollars!" - By mike onghai
In 2011, I left a hedge fund to start AppAddictive, a social advertising software platform company.
I joined an accelerator to speed up my start-up process. I raised some angel money for my startup.
I was feeling good, but I was having difficulty keeping up with Facebook's rapid changes. Enter
Steve Blank's books "Four Steps to Epiphany" and "Startup Owner's Manual".
These two books saved my startup's life. I was able to pivot our company. A few months later, I used
my hedge fund knowledge to take over a Nasdaq public company called LookSmart. I have made these 2 books
required reading for the entire LookSmart team. I like the culture of LookSmart to be data-driven, lean startup oriented.
No room for ego's. Celebrate failures. Fail fast.

Steve Blank's books are making the revival of LookSmart possible. Now, Steve would you like to ... full review

"A practical guide based on great experience of a real professional" - By Mikhail
A practical guide based on great experience of a real professional.
If just only part of recommendations is followed by contractors the ratio of successful projects would grow dramatically. This book is recommended for owners reading to understand contractors backstage (helps establish proper negotiating strategy and reasonable tendering approach). Simple language provides understanding for construction business beginners. Case studies from real life and methodologies will be interesting for professionals.

"Social Business is in your hands and here's how" - By Omar (Austin, TX USA)
Social business is not a donation-dependent NGO nor a corporation which maximizes shareholder wealth. Its measure of success is determined by the amelioration of a targeted social cause. Yunus presents an excellent introduction to the concept of social business, highlighting the successes and lessons learned from initial endeavours with Grameen Bank. He makes the bold claim that capitalism in its current form is not fully developed because it does not address humankind's altruistic nature. In this book he admits the growing pains that have taken place since Grameen's birth. He argues that a society less dependent on government to target CERTAIN social issues inefficiently, could lead to a more efficient private sector to ameliorate those same issues.. Motivating to say the least.

"A guide to building a thriving organization through psychological safety" - By Joe (New Jersey)
This is a very special volume. If you have been reading lately about notions of "psychological safety" at leading businesses like Google, then 10 Laws of Trust is what you need to enact these ideas in your own life and for your own enterprise. This book distills a lifetime of management and family experience into practicable wisdom about what it takes to create a high-performance organization that runs on passion rather than fear.

It's also something of a shortcut to getting something that I missed out on––taking Joel's class at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Early in the book (pg. 14), Joel presents a chart showing levels of trust in various types of organizations. A family runs on love; a prison runs on fear. Where between these posts, he asks impliedly, does your business fall?

This book has a tendency to ask the kinds of penetrating ... full review

"easily graspable bursts" - By David Gerstel (Kensington, CA, USA)
As a builder and author myself, I have read or reviewed virtually every construction business book ever written for light frame builders. There are a very few that I think are really worth owning. ELEMENTS OF BUILDING is one of them. I've had it for a few years now. I find myself referring to it regularly. Usually, after I have opened it up for insight into a specific topic, I find myself reading on for a while because Kerson's pithy, insightful delivery is so engaging.
Because the book is all text--no graphics or illustrations--it is possible that it may prove a bit overwhelming for some start-up builders. On the other hand, because Kerson delivers his lore in short, easily graspable bursts,, his book may very well help even an inexperienced builder get the lay of the land.
Without doubt, reading it is a far better option ... full review

"Beyond Business: A Must-Read Case Study for Students of International Development" - By Henry Miller
After over a century of drama propelled by the Spanish American War, dictatorship with Mafia infested casinos, the romance and radical chic of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara, tail-wagging-the-dog-exile politics, the riveting saga of orphaned refugee Elian Gonzalez, and Cold War confrontation marked by nuclear showdown between the superpowers, it is refreshing to read this sober approach to the new realities of Cuba in the wake of restored diplomatic relations with the United States.

Despite the fact that Professor Feinberg has been both a witness and a protagonist in the high drama of U.S.-Cuba relations, this meticulously researched study keeps its eye on the ball by moving backstage to realities on the ground, employing an economist's eye in surveying the state of play in the equally dramatic struggle of the Cuban people to secure living standards commensurate with the island's image as the Crown Jewel of the Caribbean.

"Traditional HBR High Quality" - By Naomi B. (Elgin, IL)
Being a fan of HBR's anything, I was eager to get my hands on this book for a review. Being in healthcare business development for over 15 years, this book sung out to me. This is an awesome basic book that lays out the Who, What, When and Why of a business case. In tradition HBR excellence, it took it a step above and I was able to pull things out that I could utilize as well. As usual, this will be an HBR guide that I purchase, use and refer to. I think I would have liked to have seen it go a tad bit deeper into tips that someone in my position could utilize. At its core, this was still a book for novices to utilize and learn from.

"this would be the first I recommend to anyone building a hardware startup" - By W. B. Knox (Austin, TX USA)
