I enjoyed reading this book and I like most in this book, it has picture that will help you to visualized all the scene from the history. Some information I read from this book are how Iroquois Confederacy is formed, Jacques Cartier explore the St. Lawrence region and some information about the treaty that makes this book interesting to read. This is highly recommended to knew the 50 events of Canadian history!(24) -

Okay, it seems that every time I'm up yonder some key component of the economy is on strike, and the taxes are practically Scandinavian, but somehow it hangs together. Survey after survey show that Canadians enjoy the highest standard of life in the world. Not the most SUV's per capita, necessarily, but taking into account along with the hard goods such intangibles as access to health care, reliable public transit, equitable justice and so on, they're tops. ... full review(47) -

I am 2/3s thru the book and it has not disappointed. It is historically definitive and comes back again and again to the underlying conceptions and misconceptions that have characterized the relations between the two countries. It is a book worthy of the title and subject and what drew me to buy the book in the first place. As a citizen of both countries I have observed over half a century of the complex themes that professor Bothwell points out and I think he has it just about right.(5) -

I bought this as a casual read to learn more about our neighbor, Canada. This is more of a college level textbook yet I am still very happy that I bought this book. It keeps my attention, not a dry read at all. I recommend this to all Americans who lack knowledge of our northern neighbor.(10) -

W. J. Eccles did a phenomenal job in covering the history of New France. I was expecting a dry history. I didn't get one. What I got was a story of men and a few women.
This book is a facinating account of the settlement of Canada under the French. For a history book, it was hard to put down. Eccles brought the problems of starting and maintaining a colony to life. He presents historical figures like Frontenac and La Salle as real people who made real mistakes without excuses or whitewashing.
I would recommend this book to anyone doing any type of research into New France.(4) -

We recently moved from Alberta to Texas. My daughter's preschool is setting up an International Section in their Library so I got it for a donation. It arrived and my kids really enjoyed it. Then my husband and I ended up reading through it too. Its got lots of little tid bits of information (from Gretzky to Nellie McClung) in it that you probably haven't thought about but are interesting for kids and adults alike. Its starts with an overview of Canada then goes through each of the provinces. The information is closer to the 8year old designation but the pictures are great. The little write-ups for each are easy comprehension for the little ones when someone reads it to them. My kids (5&6) loved looking at the pictures and I read them the information. It became their bedtime story book till I gave ... full review(9) -
