I read the 2nd edition of the Handbook of Leadership Development and it was the best book that I ever read in Leadership Development. I have been wondering if there will be a better book to be published on LD and CCL did it again. This book is packed with ideas and CCL has had no reservation on keeping this knowledge to them only. You will get that Aha almost every page you read. Chapters 1 on Leader Development Systems, 2 on Learning from Experience alone are worth buying the book. There is plenty of solid ideas for leader development in the remaining chapters such as Feedback Intensive Programs, Leadership Coaching, Leader Development and Social Identity. If you are involved with Leader Development, a line manager with the responsibility of developing your own staff, an HR Development guy or even if you are a ... full review(9) -

However different they may be in many respects, all of the healthiest organizations (most highly admired, best to work for, most profitable, lowest attrition of valued employees, etc.) create and sustain a workplace in which communication, cooperation, and (especially) collaboration between and among stakeholders are highly developed. Please keep that statement in mind as you read this excerpt from the Introduction in which Leigh Thompson observes:
"[Begin italics] Collaboration [end italics] is the art and science of combining people's talents, skills, and knowledge to achieve a common goal [or goals]. [begin italics] Creative collaboration [end italics] is the ability of teams and their leaders to organize, motivate, and combine talent to generate new and useful ideas. Teams that conspire to commit creative and innovative acts are engaged in a [begin italics] creative conspiracy [end italics]." After months of waiting for the Kindle version to be released, I finally was able to buy and download Daring and Disruptive to my iPad last night. This morning I finished reading it. It's rare I can - or do - read a book from cover to cover right away - this was one of those rare occasions. Lisa Messenger shares her amazing journey and message from the highs and lows of her vast entrepreneurial business experience and importantly, her deep self knowledge and awareness, from years of self inquiry, therapy and healing. Grounded, mature, authentic and brave, Lisa shares her philosophy and tips for creating a successful business, or taking a new inventive approach to an existing one. Well written in an easy to read yet compelling way, I love her honesty and willingness to tell the truth - that business and entrepreneurialism are not easy, and the sooner ... full review(20) -

Lee Cockerell, by his own admission, wasn't a very easy person to work with. After getting whacked on the head a few times with various office supply products, wielded by unhappy co-workers, he got the message: Lighten up. It's a message many people currently engaged in "business" (including more than a few CEOs) need to heed. Watch out, that next clipboard may have your name on it.
Sometimes it takes a good smack on the head by a clipboard, or a swift kick in the pants, to make us understand that we need to get along with people in order to succeed. That's such a simple concept, but one that so often is dismissed by so many, especially the higher up the corporate ladder they climb.
Fortunately, Lee Cockerell got the message, loud and clear. The rest is contemporary American business history. ... full review(206) -

List Price: $22.95 Price: $17.39 You Save: $5.56 (24%) "One of the best books on organizational culture I have ever read." - By John B. Spence (Gainesville, FL)
I have read dozens, if not hundreds of books on corporate culture, vision, mission, core values, company purpose… And this is absolutely one of the finest. I picked it up in an airport and read it on a one hour flight and almost used up an entire highlighting pen. This is one of the most concise, clear and understandable descriptions of how to build a strong organizational culture. Whether you run a large organization or a small business, this book will give you wonderful ideas about how to improve/strengthen your business. I have several clients that I'm going to send a copy of this book because it does such a superb job of sharing critical business ideas. Also, I was concerned that because the book was about Chick-fil-A it would have a significant amount of religious overtones – there is some discussion of religion the book, but it is not ... full review(87)
